Major Duties


The incumbent of this position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and tests highly complex systems of electronic sensing and control such as computer controlled warehousing/stock-handling vehicles and equipment which is operated by mainframe computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments, etc.  May perform the overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, repair, and testing of various types of electronically controlled industrial equipment such as digital weighing machines, lasers readers, electronic counters, human machine interface equipment, automatic/manual controls of forklifts and other warehouse vehicles (including wire guided vehicles), conveyors and other materials handling equipment. Applies knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms and similar devices.  May perform maintenance on a variety of electrical/electronic devices, equipment and components such as TV receivers, 2 way radios, audio-visual equipment, public address systems, computer peripheral equipment and related items.
Physical Efforts:
Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Employees frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 70 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. They may work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required.
Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed inside in well lit, heated and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Incumbent is subject to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons.

Qualifications:




Per the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education, and training must show enough of the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) listed to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience are: interpretation of engineering drawings which combine electrical and electronic schematics logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings in order to trace signal flow throughout the system while troubleshooting malfunctions of highly complex systems.




Federal Wage System (FWS) positions require the use of a Screen-Out Element (SOE). Points awarded for this element will range from 0 to 4, with 4 being the highest. Points will be based on experience and training which are documented by your responses to the questionnaire. All applicants must receive a raw score of 2.0 or above on the SOE and an average of 2.0 on all the job elements in order to be considered minimally qualified for the position(s) being filled. The raw scores that meet these criteria are then translated to a scale (70 to 100). It is at this point (Round 2) that your resume is used to confirm your qualifications.
