A trusted Water Resource company, dedicated to delivering innovative solutions, is hiring a Database Administrator experienced with TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager).
Primary Role:
The Database Administrator:
Is responsible for administrative, planning, operational and technical aspects related to the administration of computerized backup and recovery systems.
Plans, analyzes, constructs, implements and/or maintains backup and recovery systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Database Administrator:
Monitors backup and recovery systems performance, and performs capacity planning and performance analysis to maintain quality of service.
Makes recommendations and prepares reports regarding:
TSM audit record
TSM environment health and status report
TSM configuration documentation
TSM recommendation summary report
Tracks backup and recovery costs, and prepare detailed reports.
Maximizes the effectiveness and usability of backup and recovery equipment.
Interacts with service and equipment vendors to maintain existing services, enhance and implement new capabilities, and order new services.
Diagnoses support events, including but not limited to:
Providing Level 1 support for the Enterprise Tivoli Storage Management System for a multi-site, distributed, open systems environment. This individual will work on emerging and evolving Enterprise Tivoli Storage Management requirements.
Administering TSM server environment(s) to monitor and manage enterprise data management processes.
Monitoring TSM application server processes and errors to ensure overall system performance and stability.
Monitoring daily backup operations to insure they are available for Data Recovery.
Providing support to technical/non-technical customers for restore support.
Providing assistance for data center operations.
Providing support to multi-level equipment support teams to get client TSM software installed and configured in order to get backups running correctly.
Measure, monitor and report daily TSM Backup activities in Weekly Reports.
Work with Platform Administrator to resolve complex problems in a team environment, working pro-actively with System Maintenance and Performance Manager, Server Team, Network Engineering, Open Systems Team and Data Center Operations Personnel.
Work with cross-functional teams to diagnose, resolve, and prevent problems associated with TSM, MDS/Brocade SAN Fabric,IBM , IBM Tape Libraries, and AIX server components.
Conform to and support Systems Management disciplines including change management, problem management, asset management, and systems documentation.
Assist in reporting for capacity planning, growth forecasting, and performance analysis.
Monitor On-Off site tape rotations and inventory, and monitor procedures for compliance with Disaster Recovery program.
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and maintenance for the enterprise TSM environment.
Help to educate customers about restore procedures through knowledge transfer (i.e. demonstrations, one-on-one knowledge transfer, web-based training, etc.).
Participate in gathering and understanding detailed data management requirements from customers with a specific focus on TSM.
Maintain technical product certifications where applicable.
Provide technical/solution contributions to current operations and to the vision for the future.
Contribute to Company knowledge base through individual contributions (i.e. research, white papers, analysis, etc.).
Mentor new team members in operational processes, techniques, and technologies.
Perform on-call support for TSM products on an "as needed" basis.
Key Accountabilities:

Ensure that Our Client’s application, electronic information and database systems are backed up in such a manner that effective and timely recovery and restore is possible using Tivoli Storage Manager software and associated backup media management hardware.
Plan proper maintenance for the backup and recovery systems and schedule maintenance and downtime to be performed during off-peak hours.
Properly notify users and agencies of any scheduled outages.
Carry out routine and emergency installation and maintenance of the backup and recovery systems. This includes but is not limited to:
Performing audits on current hardware
Performing backups of TSM software for Clients; database backup/recovery processes and security
Client APIs and TDIs for Oracle, SQL, ERP and Sharepoint
Recommending informal Retention policies
Reviewing and correcting recovery log volume sizing/replacement
Correcting database volume sizing, capacity and placement
Checking storage pools and designing to ensure proper hierarchy
If applicable, applying the latest TSM PTFs

Determine and monitor technical status of the backup and recovery systems.
Plan for future capacity, modifications, connections, and license purchases.
Provide on-call and possible on-site server support outside normal business hours.
Establish, maintain, and review data protection and security policies, backup policies, procedures, and methods. This includes, and is not limited to:
Providing system tuning and/or optimization planning
Providing logical configuration planning, capacity planning, and volume management
Installing and configuring additional TSM clients
If applicable, installing and configuring additional TSM Servers to properly support data retention and segregation of data Encrypted data on all Systems, including Open Systems and I-series
If applicable, investigating, installing and configuring VTL solutions

Ensure that the backup and recovery systems are appropriate and work reliably and compatibly with internal and external network systems, other applications, and Internet service providers.
Adhere to approved Change Management System.
Communicate changes, new features, documentation, manuals, instructions, maps, and charts.

Support and dispense information about backup and recovery systems.
Continually research and monitor new technologies and changes to current software and hardware, for tools that the company can implement to improve workflow and processes.
Provide ongoing support to the ITS Support by troubleshooting problems noted in the operation of the e-mail and collaboration system, and completing work orders. This includes, but is not limited to providing the following formal documents:
TSM audit record
TSM environment health and status report
TSM configuration documentation
TSM recommendation summary report

Work closely with ITS staff to:
Perform backups and restores
Create test environments and application updates
Apply PTFs to applications
Supervise, direct, or monitor the work of project teams, independent contractors, installers, repairpersons, or temporary employees.

Experience with recovering TSM database using DRM
Experience with running TSM in a shared library environment, including ALMS concepts
Ability to configure and manage multiple TSM servers or multiple instance of TSM running on the same server
Experience in upgrading TSM server and database
Knowledge of SQL queries against TSM server
Ability to create and modify Perl and KSH scripts
Strong interpersonal and people management
Demonstrated Project Management expertise, including the ability to manage multiple applications and complex system integration projects
Good consulting and client relation skills, and customer service orientation
Excellent planning, prioritization, time management and organization skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including experience with technical documentation, and instructional tools and manuals
Backup and recovery experience, including Disaster recovery
Ability to produce complex documentation and technical writing to record network topologies systems, and security protocols
Skill and experience troubleshooting network, server and client hardware and software problems
Strong organizational, communication, and problem resolution skills
Knowledge:
Demonstrated capabilities in backup and recovery systems, capacity planning and the maintenance/administration applications for business use
Bachelors degree in Computer Science preferred
Expert knowledge of the supported backup and recovery systems

Ability to work independently and make timely decisions
Adherence to documented team compliance expectations
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, including use of the telephone and e-mail
Personal computing experience, including Microsoft Office applications
