POSITION: Low Vision Therapist (Blind Rehabilitation Specialist), GS-0601-11, $54,494 - $70,843 per year, Position Number 3258. One, full-time, permanent position. Tour of Duty is primarily Monday through Friday. Position is located in Patient Care Service, Fort Harrison, MT. Some travel may be required.

Major Duties
DUTIES: The Low Vision Therapist is responsible for functioning as a full member of a Rehabilitation Team. The team is responsible for the total rehabilitation process of assigned patients. This will include: evaluating patient needs, counseling, developing an individualized treatment plan, implementing this plan, and recommending prosthetic issuance. The incumbent also assists research in evaluating new technology, provides cross training instruction for other blind rehabilitation specialists in low vision, and develops instructional material that can be utilized by any member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Requirement: Degree: major study in an academic field related to health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position or combination of education and experience.
For GS-11: Education: Three (3) years of progressive higher level graduate education leading to a Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree. For the GS-11 level, candidates must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level.
Specialized experience is experience with using Ophthalmologic and Optometric terminology, eye diseases, optical devices and illumination devices; experience with low vision functional assessment and training techniques and skills; experience evaluating and training visual techniques; experience with low vision tests and procedures and the skill to interact with each team and professional support staff of the Blind Rehabilitation Service nationally. (ACVRP preferred)
