Job Listing: Director of Network systems
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for all aspects (software and hardware) of the organization's network systems. Recommends, implements, and maintains network architectures (LAN and WAN).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals, and telecommunications services.
2. Benchmark and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
3. Manages end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
4. Assists help desk Associates in solving, non-routine or complex software, hardware, and procedure problems
5. Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
6. Checks systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures.
7. Troubleshoots network problems or systems failure involving hardware and software to determine the causes and possible solutions; implements solutions to resolve problems.
8. Maintain awareness of changing trends and regulations which might affect the department and act on as required.
9. Establishes and maintains network user accounts, user environment, directories, and security.
10. Trains users on software and equipment usage.
11. Develops, maintains and tests disaster recovery plans.
12. Develops and/or establishes strong relationships with service providers.
13. Coordinates maintenance for network hardware, software and telecommunications services.
14. Keeps track of warranties and service agreements and renews or extends when necessary.
15. Develops and administers the department's annual operating budget.
16. Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
17. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to network hardware and software acquisition, use, support, security, and backup.
18. Negotiates contracts with and coordinates activities of hardware, software, telecommunications, support, and training vendors.
19. Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities.
1. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MCSE, MCSA, MCP preferred. CCNA certification a plus.
2. Five years managerial experience required.
3. Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft Windows 2000 and higher.
4. Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including routers, network switches, LAN/WAN protocols, firewall setup and maintenance. SonicWall firewall experience required. Knowledge of failover protocols for redundant routers a plus.
5. Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, including Exchange 2007.
6. Strong technical knowledge of server configuration strategies, including virtual servers and clustering. Experience with Microsoft Server 2003 required, 2008 a plus.
7. Extensive experience with Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting and Microsoft Windows Script Host. Experience with Robocopy a plus.
8. Extensive application support experience with Microsoft office and browser based applications.
9. Experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.
10. Strong leadership skills
11. Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products
12. Ability to present ideas in business -friendly and user-friendly language.
13. Keen attention to detail with proven analytical, evaluative, and problem solving abilities.
14. Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and organizational levels.
15. Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally, as well as to interact in a professional manner with colleagues, patients, public, and client's staff members.
16. Ability to multi-task; excellent organizational and planning skills required.
17. Some travel may be required
