Mission Statement: The National Nuclear Security
Administration (NNSA) is responsible for carrying out the national
nuclear security responsibilities of the Department of Energy,
including maintenance of a safe, secure and reliable stockpile of
nuclear weapons and associated materials capabilities and
technologies; promotion of international nuclear safety and
nonproliferation; and administration and management of the naval
nuclear propulsion program.

Salary: NU, $29,726-$53,012
Note: Salary includes 2008 13.18% locality-based adjustment
for the Locality Pay Area of the Rest of US.

This position is covered by the NNSA Demonstration Project.
Effective March 16, 2008, NNSA began operating under a Pay Banding
and Pay for Performance Demonstration Project in which positions are
classified by career path, occupational series, and pay bands (rather
than the traditional General Schedule grades in the Federal
Service). The NU-02 pay band is equivalent to the GS-05/08 grade
levels.
NNSA's Demonstration Project allows us the flexibility to offer
exceptional candidates higher salaries than most other Federal
agencies. Additionally, employees are eligible to receive an annual
pay increase based upon performance.

Major Duties
Summary of Duties:
The incumbent serves as an Administrative Assistant supporting
multiple organizational components on a daily basis by performing the
following duties:
Serves as office liaison, advising staff of organizational
procedures. Assists staff in implementing instructions/procedures to
expedite the work of the office.
Maintains the Assistant Manager's calendar, schedules appointments
and arranges conferences and meetings without prior approval based on
knowledge of the supervisor's schedule, workload, obligations,
preferences and concerns. Makes contact with NNSA-HQ and Service
Center, staff members, principal staff members, representatives of
NNSA contractors and other representatives of industry, military,
Federal, state and local governments. Maintains a calendar of
activities and advises the supervisor of obligations, meetings,
commitments and deadlines for work assignments and reports.
Reviews, formats, types and edits materials such as memoranda,
letters, classified documents, personnel documents, briefing
statements, and recurring and special reports using word processing
equipment and typewriters as appropriate. Ensures proper enclosures
and correctness of content, as well as compliance with NNSA
guidelines and procedures. Maintains strict confidence, discretion
and security with regard to sensitive, personal and controversial
matters. Secures files of sensitive and classified
material/correspondence.

Basic Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements,
including time-in-grade/time-in-band restrictions, specialized
experience, time after competitive appointment, etc. by the closing
date of the announcement.
Time in grade/time in band:
For NU-02 - One year equivalent to the GS-04 level (NU-01 for NNSA
Demonstration Project employees) or a combination of GS-04 and NU-01
level experience in the Federal service is required.
Specialized Experience:
For NU-02 - One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to
the GS-04 level (NU-01 for NNSA Demonstration Project employees) or a
combination of GS-04 and NU-01 level experience in the Federal
service. To meet this equirement you must have general knowledge and
experience of administrative support functions including
correspondence preparation, time and attendance, travel management,
meetings and appointment scheduling.There is no education requirement.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12): A

identity.
Declaration of Federal Employment - OF-306

Security & Suitability
This position requires that the selectee have the
ability to complete the security clearance
process and ultimately be granted and continue to
maintain a "Q" security clearance. Drug use
within the previous 12 months of submission of
security clearance paperwork will hinder an
applicant's ability to complete the security
clearance process.
A favorable suitability determination is
required. Misconduct in prior employment,
criminal, dishonest, or disgraceful conduct,
habitual use of intoxicating beverages, abuse of
narcotics, drugs or other controlled substances,
or reasonable doubt of loyalty to the United
States are some of the reasons an offer of
employment may be denied.
Drug Testing
This position requires a security clearance and
is subject to drug testing for illegal drugs.
The tentative selectee must test negative prior
to final selection for this position and will be
subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to
pass subsequent tests could result in
disciplinary action, up to and including removal
from the Federal service. NOTE: If you are a

with or without a current DOE L or Q clearance,
