Tiber Dam, Chester, MT
TIBER DAM is about 21 miles SW of Chester, 65 miles SE of Shelby, 69
miles E of Conrad, and 100 miles from Great Falls, MT. Chester, MT
(pop. 750) has shopping facilities average for a town of that size.
There are good schools through high school, several churches, one
hospital, two doctors, & one dentist in Chester. Full facilities
are available in other towns in the area. No Government housing.
MT has a State income tax, but no sales tax.
Major Duties
This seasonal position is established to perform laborer duty
assignments at several recreation areas outside of Chester,
Montana. These areas include Tiber Dam and Reservoir near Chester,
and Fresno Dam and Reservoir near Havre, and Nelson Dikes and
Reservoir near Malta, Montana. Performs maintenance labor on
campgrounds and related recreation facilities and structures and
assists journeymen or a work leader in repair and replacement work;
performs pick and shovel work in earth excavation and backfilling,
placing riprap, patching erosion and pockets, and clearing ditches.
Load, unloads and carries materials such as lumber, cement, gravel,
pipe, and poles. Operates air tools, electric tools, gas tools,
light concrete mixing equipment, portable pumps, and drives pickups
and flatbed-dump trucks, occasionally pulling corresponding trailers
or equipment. Repairs fences, cattle guards, and timber bridges.
May perform rough tack welding or burning. Performs lawn maintenance
including cutting and mowing grass and weeds; operates riding/push
lawn mowers and gas-operated weed eaters; and applies water to lawn
by operating automatic sprinkler system, hoses, and irrigation-type
pipe. Assists in the collection and disposal of litter, trash,
garbage barrels, and other containers. Collection is made by boat
and truck operation with barrel disposal at local dumpsters.
Performs cleaning of latrines, fire pits, picnic areas, and general
campground cleaning activities. Performs incidental carpentry and
painting on various recreation facilities, including latrines and
picnic shelters.Patrols camp areas noting damages, hazardous
conditions, appearance, and operational problems. Make immediate
repairs or cleanup as possible and advises work leader of other
needed work. Has frequent contact with facility users. Explains
rules and regulations, monitors use, and answers questions about
recreation facilities and other sites. Reports acts of vandalism.
May be required to perform short details (12 days maximum) to other
Reclamation recreation areas in Montana (Clark Canyon near Dillon;
Canyon Ferry Dam near Helena).
