This vacancy is being advertised under delegated
examining procedures and is open to all U.S.
citizens. The vacancy is being concurrently
advertised under merit promotion procedures for
status applicants under announcement 08-1361-WE-TC-M. Status
applicants are those individuals
who are currently serving on a career or career-
conditional appointment, individuals who are
eligible for reinstatement, or individuals who
are applying under the VEOA program. Applicants
who wish to be considered under both delegated
examining and merit promotion procedures MUST

This position is located at the Department of Homeland Security,
United States Coast Guard, ISC San Pedro, Engineering Division,
Machine and Rigging Shop, Los Angeles, CA DUTY STATION: San Pedro

The Command is currently undergoing an A-76 study and it is
anticipated that some positions maybe eliminated.

Major Duties

The incumbent will perform Machinist duties in the Engineering
Division and the USCG Integrated Support Command San Pedro:
-Sets up and operates various machines/tools to machine castings,
forgings, or rough/bar stock of various metals and metal alloys
-Aligns work in machine according to prescribed methods and specified
reference points
-secures work piece on bed, turntables, or faceplate of machine
between centers or in chucks, collets, or similar devices using
stops, fixtures, jigs and guides
-operates drill presses, grinders, power saws, lathes, presses,
shears, milling machines and binding machines
-overhauls, maintains, repairs and installs various types of
machinery and equipment such s rolling stock(mobile cranes,
forklifts, manlifts and boat hoists), shop machinery (lathes,
presses, shears, air compressors and hydraulic/pneumatic tools) and
utilities (plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems, hot water
heaters/boilers, dishwashers and various galley equipment)
-makes repairs to gasoline and diesel engines, compressors, pumps,
winches, power take-offs, gear and belt trains and similar machinery
-work with blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be
made or other specifications
-determines which machine tools would be best for each operation to
be performed which attachments are to be used on each machine
