Major Duties

The successful candidate serves as a Computer Scientist in the Operational Evolution Partnership Office, Integration Managers Group, AJP-A3. Plans and coordinates activities required to develop and execute the NextGen Automation strategy. Responsible for portfolio development activities that will include collaboration with multiple program offices located across the FAA to insure the integration of program efforts required to define and achieve NextGen automation goals. Detail elements of the portfolio will include initiatives in various stages of the NextGen lifecycle (concept development, research, demonstrations, investment analysis, system modernization, etc.) Facilitates program adjustments to support alignment and implementation of the NAS Enterprise Architecture roadmaps. Leads periodic NextGen performance assessments to document progress toward strategic plans. Assists in the identification of resource, technical and schedule gaps and facilitate timely resolution when such issues are identified. Provides guidance in the development of aviation concepts, automation systems, or technology development practices. Works closely with the Chief Systems Engineers to ensure that the elements in the NextGen portfolio are appropriately described to deliver NextGen functionality successfully and in a timely manner. Works with the ATO-P Research and Technology Development Organization and various program offices on defining and implementing the work required to develop and validate NextGen automation requirements. Represents the FAA on various working groups and committees and will be responsible for communicating the official agency message on many NextGen topics. Writes correspondence, memoranda, or other documents relevant to the NextGen automation strategies.

Required Skills

Qualifications

Applicant must show successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In addition, to qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J or FG-14 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.

1. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Knowledge of the National Airspace System Enterprise Architecture.

A one-year probationary period may be required.
