Major Duties

Supervises and assures accomplishment of housekeeping functions including linen supply at the CrowService Unit.  Functions include use of specialized procedures for maintaining bacteriological cleanliness.  Required to perform housekeeping duties, when not performing supervisory duties.  Plans and assigns work to subordinates, sets priorities, establishes work unit goals and objectives.  Establishes measurable standards and evaluates the performance of subordinates periodically.  Reviews work in progress or upon completion.  Informs employees on all matters, which affect their employment by conducting periodic staff meetings. Interviews candidates in the work unit, selects employees or makes recommendations for appointment, promotions or reassignments.  Initiates disciplinary actions such as warnings, reprimands, and suspensions.  Identifies training needs of employees and personally provides training, or makes provisions for such developmental training.  Performs housekeeping functions during the regular routine.  Assures quality by routine inspections, checks and walk thru's.  Explains work requirements, methods and procedures as needed.  Responsible for orientation of new housekeeping employees.  Proper documentation and filing system must be maintained to meet JCAHO standards.  Determines equipment, material, and maintenance required.  Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining adequate reserves of all cleaners, etc. (according to housekeeping policies & procedures).  Assures the materials are ordered and delivered to work sites so as not to delay work.  Serves as a member of hospital committees such as: the safety committee, and the infection control committee.  Cleans all areas of hospital facility, including walls, meeting rooms, bathrooms, etc., plus specialized areas such as delivery rooms, operating rooms, nursery, isolation units, etc.  Special bacteriological prevention procedures are used in the specialized areas, e.g., (a) Two bucket mopping technique, (b) Special disposal of contaminated linens, waste material and dangerous items, (c) cause of gowns, masks and gloves in cleaning, (d) use of appropriatechemicals for conductive floors, uses heavy cleaning machines such as vacuum cleansers, floor scrubbers, high speed buffers, etc. performs minor protective maintenance on some such as cleaning, changing attachments, etc.
