Role Summary
Develop new products aligned with strategic goals of the Cell Discovery and Molecular Biology Business Unit. Responsible for managing a group of scientists and research associates as well as performing hands-on laboratory research in support of product development activities.
Primary Role Responsibilities
1. Experienced Cell Biologist contributing scientific expertise and proposing new ideas and product concepts targeting the research market, drawn from scientific literature and personal experience
2. Develops cell culture systems including novel human and animal cell types, specialty media, cell-based assays, and companion products
3. Supervises group of 2 or more scientists, providing coaching and assistance to help establish and achieve project goals and timelines
4. Acts as liaison between group members and upper management
5. Performs/assigns projects according to priorities and tracks project progress toward milestones and deadlines.
6. Establishes and maintains good working relationships and open communication with other departments such as marketing, QC and manufacturing.
7. Provides technical support to other departments including Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Marketing.
8. Participates in technology transfer of new products to manufacturing groups
9. Represents R and D group both internally and to external customers

Maintenance of quality systems and cGMP compliance for the business by ensuring that all team members comply with processes, procedures and instructions for all activities in which the team participates.

- Is knowledgeable and complies with all pertinent safety policies, rules and regulations.
- Ensure that all team members comply with safety rules and regulations.
Job Scope
Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
Skill and/or Education Requirements
- Graduate degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline with product commercialization experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience could be considered.
- Experience in the isolation, culture, and in vitro differentiation of adult stem cells of human and/or animal origin.
- Expertise and hands-on experience in the isolation and handling of primary human and animal cells.
- Expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- human and/or animal hepatocytes
- human hematopoietic stem cells
- media development or optimization
- cell-based assays development
- Proficient in a wide range of cell and molecular biology laboratory techniques..
- Previous supervisory experience required with strong team leadership and interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to independently write study reports.
- Strong project management skills. Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project required.
- Demonstrated record of effective goal setting and time management skill required.
- Familiarity with MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Working Conditions
A majority of the work is done in a laboratory environment. While working in the laboratory environment appropriate gowning, including safety equipment is required as denoted for the designated area (i.e. lab coat, gloves, safety glasses). Eyestrain and/or repetitive motion symptoms may occur due to use of the computer.
