The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic
research in the physical sciences in the United States. We oversee
and are the principal Federal funding organization of the nation's
research programs in high-energy physics, nuclear physics, and
fusion energy sciences. The Office of Science is also the Federal
government's largest single provider of funds for the chemical and
materials sciences. We manage fundamental research programs in
basic energy science and support unique and vital parts of the
United States research in climate changes, geophysics, genomics,
life sciences, and science foundation.

The Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of the Deputy
Director for Resource Management, Office of Budget, is seeking a
motivated and highly qualified individual to provide budget and
administrative duties for the office.

Major Duties

At the full performance level of this position, and if selected, you
will prepare and maintain budget documents, and extensive and multi-
formatted budget report tables and cross-cutting analysis reports.
You will gather, extract, review, verify, summarize, and consolidate
a variety of information needed in the formulation and presentation
of budget requests. You will prepare documents and verify for
accuracy a multitude of budget material including briefing material
for senior staff, coordinate a complex question and answer process,
and implement financial planning and controls for the office. You
will review outgoing documentation and correspondence, and perform a
variety of other administrative duties for the office.

GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5


level in the Federal government.


GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6


level in the Federal government.


GS-8: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7


level in the Federal government.Although this position does not have a positive education


requirement, you may submit copies of your transcripts or a course


listing.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS VACANCY: A preliminary background


check must be completed before a new employee can begin work with


the U.S. Department of Energy. The preliminary background check


consists of a search of Office of Personnel Management and


Department of Defense background investigation files and an FBI


National Criminal History Fingerprint Check; it may take up to three


weeks to complete. If selected for this position, you will be


extended a tentative offer of employment pending a satisfactory


background check. Current Federal employees or other individuals


with an existing completed background investigation may not be
