Job Title: Plant Operator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but are not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.
1. Set valves and operates pumps to transfer process materials to proper destination.
2. Watches for and recognizes abnormal conditions or situations and exercises initiative to correct or call to attention of Shift Team Lead or On Call Supervisor.
3. Maintains data cards, operating records and log books for his assignment.
4. Takes samples according to prescribed schedule and procedure.
5. Performs minor maintenance and repair of equipment. Reports other maintenance requirements to Shift Team Lead and prepares work request for needed maintenance.
6. Cleans plugged lines, etc., with or without assistance of Maintenance personnel depending on situation.
7. Gauges tanks and weighs drums.
8. Packages and weighs finished product. Performs test weighing as required.
9. Observes strict safety precautions, knows emergency shutdown procedures.
10. Sees that sufficient operating materials and supplies are available at operating site.
11. Keeps operating area clean and orderly.
12. Moves heavy drums, etc., as required.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
14. Trains and/or assists in training of lower classified personnel.
15. Inspects safety equipment daily.
16. Familiar with and follows operating procedures for the area assigned. Submits to testing as required to verify knowledge and determine needed training.
17. Takes steps necessary to assure product quality.
18. Demonstrates satisfactory or better safety attitude and awareness.
19. Ability to drive a forklift
Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of operating characteristics of various plant processing equipment
- Dependability, sound judgment and strong initiative
- Good organization skills, with close attention and concentration to responsibilities
Physical Demands

The job can be physically demanding involving movement of heavy equipment and carrying materials up and down stairs. Candidates should be able to lift a 60-lb load.
