Aerotek has an immediate opening for an Environmental Scientist/Trial Burn Engineer at their client site in Anniston, Alabama.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Scope: Performs scientific environmental studies, typically in assessing environmental impact and in environmental sampling. analyzes test data; develops or prepares descriptive charts, figures or matrices; and tests the specifications of these items. Provides data analysis and validation support to site trial burn studies, environmental design criteria, permit modifications, impact assessment, and RCRA, CAA, and NPDES permit compliance. Reviews procedures and test reports for compliance with environmental regulations. Recommends changes to draft reports, procedures, or test plans. Works on technical problems of diverse scope. May provide recommendations on specific topics in areas of expertise to engineering co-workers. May serve in a lead role on special projects and studies. Contributes to the development of the organization's goals and objectives. Frequently interacts with supervisors, CMA client, other contractors, and co-workers at other chemical demilitarization sites.
- Candidate must be willing to periodically work on weekends and holidays if testing and sampling is scheduled to occur during those periods.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Candidate must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Operation of government vehicles is required.
- Candidate must be willing to work at a remote military installation and a work site that stores and destroys chemical weapons.
- Candidate must pass a medical surveillance exam, including the physical ability to wear an air purifying respirator (M40 mask).
- Candidate must be able to climb ladders and work on elevated stack sampling platforms.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, math or an equivalent scientific discipline.
REQUIRED SKILLS: 7+ years of related environmental chemistry experience. Candidate must be able to demonstrate good technical writing skills and technical oral presentation skills. Candidate must demonstrate the interpersonal skills to interface with customers and state environmental regulators. Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, and standard desktop computer applications. Position requires an understanding of EPA rules and regulations related to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs), Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT), as it relates to combustion equipment. Knowledge of SW-846 methodology and analytical chemistry. Knowledge of combustion systems: incinerators, boilers, etc.
Knowledge of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and stack sampling protocols.
DESIRED SKILLS: An understanding of the basics of risk assessment as it applies to human health and the environment, experience with hazardous waste permitting, and compliance monitoring are preferred skills.
