The solutions architect is a member of the enterprise architecture group, and is under the general direction of the Director of Enterprise Architecture. The main focus for the solutions architecture will be the definition of solutions for defined business problems that are in-line with the enterprise context (target state architecture). Solutions will contain future state segments of information, application and infrastructure architecture. The solutions architect will need to work closely with enterprise architects, business analysts, systems administrators, developers, dba’s, etc… to coordinate the solution. This list of duties is not exhaustive, and may be added, deleted or changed at any time, without notice.
1. Formulate the solution by creating a solutions structure that balances the goals of the business requirements and the constraints on the project; including strategic IT plans.
2. Develop solutions architecture artifacts including future state application architecture, future state information architecture, and future state technology architecture.
3. Supporting the developers by participating as a member of the integration teams, pulling tasks, running or participating in spike solutions.
4. Enable cross functional communicating by modeling and vetting the future state architecture models with all participating functional organizations.
5. Updating the future state models if the final project delivery deviated from the original architectural plans.
6. Push common engineering level issues to the Enterprise Architecture members for the creation of new referential patterns, new technical standards, new enterprise infrastructure, etc…
7. Develop the domain design models within an agile (Scrum) development team, and create the interoperability models between development teams.
8. Perform other duties as needed and as directed by supervisor.
Requirements:
1. Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or other information technology oriented major is a must; an MBA is preferred.
2. Experience: Minimum 4 years experience as a Solutions Architect, and at least 10 year of experience in the IT industry. Must be able to demonstrate a solid background in application design and development, experience and a solid understanding of service oriented architecture/design, OO analysis and design, relational modeling and ORM. Must have experience with databases/repositories and any experience with an information fabric is a plus. Must have a solid understanding of a broad range of middleware and associated IT capabilities. Must have experience with modeling at all levels of abstraction.
3. Technology: Must be able to do object oriented programming in Java, while programming abilities in C# is a plus. Must have experience with case design tools. Must be able to transition between Windows, Linux and Unix environments. Experience with application, web and web service security is a definite plus.
4. Skills/Abilities: Must have a solid understanding of the basic EA concepts, and EA theory; DDD, UML and BPMN modeling is a plus. Candidate needs the ability to lead research and development projects, and the ability to plan and accomplish goals within a team environment. Candidate must be able to influence others and be able to demonstrate pier leadership skills. Candidate needs to be able to multi-task while balancing competing priorities. Candidate must possess excellent written, verbal, and presentational communication skills.
