The Materials Corrosion Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for various Army aircraft and to program offices regarding the disposition of non-conforming parts and testing requirements.
Specific Duties:
- Develops airworthiness qualification requirements for materials.
- Performs failure analysis of components and analyzes field performance using process-microstructure-properties relationships.
- Evaluates materials and process changes, establishes test requirements, approves /disapproves changes.
- Reviews, analyzes and develops maintenance procedures-requirements of safety critical components.
Bachelors Degree from an ABET accredited university or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years related work experience is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to successfully complete the Stanley Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education, Employment, Credit and Driving Records Checks for continued employment.
- Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment; US Citizenship is required.
- Ability to travel up to 25% or less.
- Experience in the areas of metals and corrosion measurement, prevention and control.
- Must have experience in mechanical properties testing of materials, materials diagnostics activities such as sample preparation, machine ops, and thermo mechanical processing equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with materials regarding processing, inspection, and testing.
- Knowledge and experience with destructive testing and non-destructive testing methods to include, but not limited to, evaluation and preparation of test procedures for dimensional inspection, compositional analysis, micro structural analysis, and testing.
- Experience with rotary wing aircraft preferred.
- Experience with fixed wing and aerospace engineering desired.
- Able to verbally communicate the technical rationale from a fundamental materials / corrosion engineering point of view.
- Able to effectively work with a team of materials scientists and engineers.
Preferred:
- Graduate degrees and aerospace materials / corrosion engineering experience are preferred.
- Master's degree or PHD in Materials Science or Metallurgical or Corrosion Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline are preferred.
