Job Listing: Manufacturing Engineer

Engineer
This position is accountable for coordinating the total functions starting with the manufacturability of New Product Introduction (NPI) from concept/design through the steps of assembly production. This includes providing guidance, leadership and coordination at the operations level in coordination with the Teams. Principle duties include, but not limited to: A. Develop project proposals by creating cost estimates, technical specifications, identifying and qualifying suppliers, soliciting bids from qualified suppliers, performing project site audits, developing technical evaluations, and work area layouts. B. Manage capital projects from concept to implementation for new processes, assembly, test, and tooling, etc. for assigned area. C. Provide capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates , capacity increases, equipment and/or systems replacement, and methods and/or process improvement. D. Other activities include participating in Class A and 6 Sigma initiatives, strategy development, and supporting cost reduction goals.
Required Skills
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of work experience relevant to the position; excellent longevity in previous positions, and a degree or certificate is highly preferred. An accredited (4) year Engineering or Engineering Technology degree required and 1+ years of Assembly experience. Incumbents must: 1) Have thorough knowledge of assembly, test, and paint processes, and equipment. 2) Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and project planning skills. 3) Have the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal or external Caterpillar customers and suppliers. 4) Be able to aggressively pursue the knowledge required to implement NPI change. 5) Have the ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently. 6) Have working knowledge of FMEA's, SPC, Project Management, Lean Manufacturing, Error Proofing, and Root Cause Analysis. 7) Possess working knowledge of component/product assembly processes. 8) Be PC literate in Auto Cad and Microsoft offerings such as Power Point, Excel, Word and Project. 9) Must be willing to stay abreast of technology advancements through additional courses of formal education. 10) Must be able to travel approximately 10% of the time. Familiarity with Lafayette products and Client systems such as the Capital Management System, SSP's, CAPP+ and Team Center is a benefit. 6 Sigma experience is also a plus.
