8. Install commercial HVAC systems, electronic and pneumatic controls, building management systems and related piping.
9. Lay out jobs per blueprints or schematics without assistance.
10. Install steam, water, and chilled water piping systems in large commercial buildings.
11. Responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting and emergency repair of fan filter units to provide proper air changes and negative pressure.
JOB ELEMENT #4; ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS AND BLUEPRINTS
12. Interpret instructions, schematics, and blueprints for HVAC systems in large commercial buildings.
13. Work from blueprints, sketches, schematics and drawings in the installation and repair of refrigeration equipment.
14. Work performed independently from written and/or oral instructions, such as work orders.
15. Interpret instructions, schematics and blueprints with limited direction. Some of this experience was gained from working in a large commercial building.

16. Use and upkeep of air flow hoods, differential manometer, multi-meter and Halogen leak detector.
17. Use of refrigerant recovery machine, vacuum pump, and other power hand tools.
18. Experience using vacuum pumps, phase rotation indicators, capacitor testers, and electronic insulation testers.
19. Skill using handsets, voltmeters, ohm meters, current flow and continuity meters, screwdrivers, punch down tools, wrenches, soldering irons, and various other tools to repair, troubleshoot and install telephone and electronic equipment.

20. Troubleshoot large commercial building HVAC systems.
21. Troubleshoot air handlers, pneumatic controls, steam, chilled water and air systems.
22. Troubleshoot and solve 90% of problems on own judgment without consultation with the Supervisor.
23. Carry out repair work with supervision on major components should the need arise.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to capture the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The evaluation you receive is based on your responses to the questionnaire and is a measure of the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of this position.

To qualify for this position: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence of specialized experience, which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume or OF-612.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is:You must have a Universal CFC Technical Certificate and you must be able to work without more than normal supervision.
AND
You must have experience in air conditioning and refrigeration that demonstrates the ability to do the work of the position as described. This experience must demonstrate a practical, working knowledge of the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration and materials/equipment of the trade and the ability to assemble, install, maintain and repair systems and equipment. It must also demonstrate the ability to read and interpret instructions and the ability to properly and safely use and maintain tools and equipment of the trade, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems related to air conditioning/refrigeration (AC/R) systems and equipment.
MEDICAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must be able to do the work of the position without harm to self or others. This work requires considerable movement around the hospital and involves bending, lifting, working from ladders and scaffolding and platforms, both in and outside buildings, and crawling through restrictive areas. The incumbent must occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing fifty (50) pounds or more with proper equipment. Assignments may require him/her to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Selectees employment may be subject to passing a physical that will be arranged and paid for by the VA. This position may be subject to random drug testing. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: If you are appointed to a direct patient-care position, you must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 4104(c).
