THIS IS A TERM POSITION NOT-TO-EXCEED 2 YEARS.  THE INDIVIDUAL SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION MAY BE EXTENDED FOR A TOTAL PERIOD OF FOUR YEARS WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION.



Major Duties

Operates a vacuum type sweepers to maintain aircraft runways, taxiways and parking aprons.  Operates vacuum type sweeper for airfield maintenance, with separate power unit and those with both vacuum and a hydraulic systems including the auxiliary drive.  Operates magnetic sweepers on aircraft parking ramp and base streets to pick metal and foreign objects to keep from damaging aircraft and vehicle tires and sweepers from maintenance of base streets and base beautification.  Perform routine inspections on vehicles.

OPERATOR WORK includes operating a variety of diesel and gasoline powered snow
removal and engineering equipment used for snow removal of roads, parking areas,
and airfields. This includes equipment with specially designed attachments
(i.e., snow plow, mounted sand and chemical spreaders, or rotary snow blowers)
used separately or simultaneously.

A. I am able to perform the most difficult and complex airfield clearing
equipment operator tasks and I have supervised other operators at various types
of work sites.
B. I am able to perform the full range of airfield clearing equipment operator
work under general supervision. My work is occasionally inspected and I have
served as a work/crew leader.
C. I am able to perform common airfield clearing equipment operator tasks which
are assigned to me. My work is inspected upon completion by my work leader or
supervisor for conformance to requirements.
D. I am able to perform simple airfield clearing equipment operator tasks under
close supervision of a work leader who observes the tasks I am performing and
ensures that I perform them properly.
E. I know little or nothing about airfield clearing equipment operator work. I
do not have on-the-job training or experience as an airfield clearing equipment
operator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES / JOB ELEMENTS:
