What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?
This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with
or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment
to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the
Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 2 years

Major Duties
This position is with the U.S. Geological Survey, Pennsylvania
Water Science Center, Hydrologic Investigations Section, located in
Exton, PA. The selectee will be responsible for performing the
following duties:
-Collect water data for biological, chemical, and streamflow
analysis. Make field determinations on surface and/or ground water
for parameters of temperature, specific conductance, dissolved
oxygen, pH, alkalinity, etc. Assemble and prepare field and
laboratory data for tabulation, and assist in technical studies of
water-quality parameters. Make measurements of stream discharge
utilizing various measuring devices and techniques.
-Operate and maintain hydrologic instrumentation, such as satellite
transmitters, electronic recorders, automatic water-quality
samplers, pressure transducers, pH, DO, K, and T meters, and
telemetry systems.
-Prepare summaries of field activities, reports for project review,
cooperator reports, and basic data report manuscripts. Communicate
with cooperators, co-workers, and observers.
-Maintain filling systems to support all aspects of hydrologic data
collection. Perform a variety of computer retrievals and entries,
editing, and systems processing tasks related to processing
hydrologic data. Enter, retrieve edit, and tabulate data from
databases. Use a variety of computer systems and operating systems.
-Compile data and information for scientific reports. Compute data
and conduct basic data analysis such as summary statistics.
Display data for use in preparing reports.
-A valid state driver's license is required for this position. The
following physical requirements are necessary in order to receive
consideration for this position: must be able to lift and carry a 50-
pound weight over 50 yards.
