About the Position: Madigan Army Medical Center is one of the Army?s major teaching hospitals with 21 Residency Programs and 7 Fellowships, serving thousands of beneficiaries throughout the Pacific Northwest with a combined military and civilian staff of nearly 3,000. Fort Lewis/Madigan Army Medical Center is located in the southern Puget Sound Region of Western Washington State. While the installation is less than an hour from Seattle and Seatac International Airport, the alpine playgrounds of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains are within an easy drive as are Pacific Ocean beaches. Nearby Tacoma, a city of over 200,000 is undergoing a revitalization of its down town to include a four year branch of the University of Washington.

Major Duties

In a developmental capacity you will transcribe voice recording of physicians to provide specialized medical dictation covering a wide range of medical specialties. Apply extensive technical knowledge of medical terminology/medical documentation requirements. Prepare medical histories and physical examination reports, narrative summaries, diagnoses and procedures, surgical reports, medical evaluation boards, consultations, and technical and administrative correspondence to complete patient records. Analyze dictation for accuracy and meaning to determine dictated test results are consistent with associated patient symptoms or diagnosis. Ensure completed dictation is medically consistent, accurate in context, and within regulatory requirements. Edit medically inconsistent dictation. Operate computerized dictation/transcription equipment to transcribe from voice recordings into final form. Provide assistance by researching requests, retrieving medical reports from the computer system.

General Schedule SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Includes but is not limited to experience using medical terminology, word processing equipment and software, and transcribing voice recordings for medical reports. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Long periods of listening through headphones while transcribing material on a computer is required. Some walking, standing and bending is required.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Education can be substituted for experience. Review the qualification requirements for specific information.One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled.Typing - Any Grade: Qualified typist is required (40wpm).GS-04: Six months of general experience and six months of experience directly related to this occupation, or 2 years of education above high school level with courses related to this occupation, or a combination of experience and education.
