Job Description:
Implement the safety programs and activities of the company to ensure that an effective loss control and accident prevention program is maintained and that appropriate measures are taken to comply with corporate, OSHA, and related safety policies and directives.
Job Duties:
Examine plant equipment slated for purchase and proposed facility modifications and additions for safety requirements. Recommends modifications or adjustments to correct any deficiencies prior to purchase or use.
Determine and specify appropriate safety equipment and safe work practices to be employed on specific jobs based on OSHA and corporate standards and implements accordingly through plant management.
Coordinate activities with industrial hygiene personnel in order to establish and maintain safe procedures involving toxic fumes, explosive air mixtures, noise, and other hazardous circumstances that may be present and that cannot reasonably be eliminated.
Administers implementation of the construction safety program for facility modification or expansion projects and processes through coordination with team members and their suppliers and contractors.
Monitor on a regular basis the availability and condition of appropriate fire-fighting, and fire safety equipment in the plant.
Respond and direct emergency operations on a 24 hour on-call basis. Perform, with all required personal protective equipment, in various roles on emergency response teams including, first responder, technician, safety officer, and incident commander.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or a related area or the equivalent combination of education and or experience.
Experience:
A minimum of 7 years work experience in the area of safety in a manufacturing setting, preferably in the automotive industry. Emphasis is placed on industrial safety and occupational health experience.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.: Proficiency in planning and direction of Security and Safety matters to include: Hot work permits, Vehicle Control, Lock/Key Control, Executive Protection, Inventory Control, General Rules of Conduct, Communication Procedures, Property Removal, Emergency Procedures, Policy Manuals, Public Relations, Card Access, Security/Fire Training, Fire/Safety Inspections and Classroom Instruction. To be a Certified Safety Professional or the ability to be certified.
Preferred Skills: OSHA Tech, CIH, CSP or Master’s degree in Safety or Public Health
