Job Listing: Senior Production Database Administrator

Summary: The Senior Production Database Administrator is responsible for the monitoring, archiving, security, and ongoing daily maintenance of the production Oracle databases. This includes providing DBA support involving all aspects of database management for Oracle instances in a 24/7 operations environment. At least 75% of the position should be spent proactively monitoring and controlling all production databases ensuring maximum systems availability. This role requires an expert level of understanding of the database structure, theories, principles and practices, as well as having extensive experience providing high levels of data availability and security for a large transaction environment. This is an extremely fast paced, technical work environment.

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Develop automated monitoring and alarming scripts.
• Install application patches and perform platform upgrades.
• Act as a database liaison within the team and between external teams including IT Support, Networking, data centers, and customer care and vendor partners.
• Manage the production Oracle 9i and 10g databases including monitoring, planning, tuning, backups, archives, and restores.
• Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of the Comcast product offerings.
• Set quality standards, which will be used to determine successful database support of the Comcast products.
• Define, maintain, and distribute quality metrics contributing to improved deliverables and enabling improved technical and business risk assessments.
• Participate in group meetings to discuss approaches to current projects.
• Work with other resources in the organization ensuring alignment and integration between projects.
• Define and lead the implementation of Service Level Agreements (SLA) and industry best practice standards for the databases.
• Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate access to data.
• Provide work estimates and adhere to Project Schedules.
• Resolve trouble tickets and change requests meeting the needs of the business.
• Comply with all established procedures and policies of Comcast.
• Other functions as assigned

Required Skills

• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills required.
• Knowledge of Telephony Billing Concepts and Systems is required.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with HP-UX and Microsoft Office tools required.
• 8 plus years - Oracle DBA experience in a UNIX environment
• 6 plus years - Unix/Linux shell scripting
• 8 plus years - Performance and tuning
• 6 plus years - Server build outs
• 6 plus years – PL/SQL coding and tuning
• Oracle 9i and 10g DBA specific skills required including: installation, day to day monitoring; physical/logical database design, data modeling, backup/recovery, RMAN, replication, partitioning, database tuning, data guard/standby database, data warehousing, security, RAC, VLDB and UNIX scripting.
