Reports to: Associate Creative Director – Interactive Media
Reporting to the Associate Creative Director, the Senior Interactive Art Director manages from a project perspective both full time and freelance designers and multiple Core Teams as needed while setting the conceptual and visual direction of assigned products for Comcast Interactive Media Group (CIM).
The Senior Interactive Art Director is the Design representative at their assigned Core Teams. This lead must have a voice and raise design (strategic, conceptual, design, resource) related issues when appropriate to the whole team. The Senior Interactive Art Director is empowered to think about the “big picture”— Comcast and all its properties (online, STB, mobile, etc…) and how deliverables could impact schedules, other properties and resources.
Major duties:
• Attends, participates in or delegates all assigned Core Team matters including; vision, status, resource needs and outstanding issues to the Senior Creative Lead in a timely fashion.
• Works with Core Team on Creative Design Lead’s responsibility, accountability, consulted or informed status of any assigned project.
• Responsible for communicating with the Senior Creative Lead for necessary approvals. Additionally communicating with all Project Leads status, needs, changes, etc…
• Works with Core Team to establish assigned projects creative process and takes part in establishing project roles and responsibilities.
• Partner with Copywriter, IA, Engineering, Release Management, Product Management, MarComm and other internal groups to determine implementation plan and delivery timeline.
• Leads conceptualizing/brainstorming meetings with designers identified to work on project/deliverable and includes Senior Creative Lead as needed. Reviews concepts with Senior Creative Lead prior to presenting to client.
• Establishes and communicates rationale to the Senior Creative Lead and respected business owners behind concept and or/design direction.
• Create and/or oversee visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for Web, and application UI design.
• Researches stock photography, illustration, sound or video-clips as need be.
• Oversees, reviews and approves the determination and implementation of rough/sketch concepts, mood boards, interface designs, configurations, graphics, presentations and all visuals of assigned projects/deliverables.
• Communicates effectively task driven efforts with designers identified to work on the project. Project kick-off with identified designer and/or written details is highly recommended.
• Presents/sells ideas/concepts to client in professional manner (formal presentation, and/or very organized email depending on significance of the assigned project and/or deliverable).
• Assures design teams adherence to schedules and implementation plans keeping the appropriate parties and leadership up to date.
• Identifies and learns new technologies and design techniques and takes lead role in sharing knowledge. Involved with design organizations and keeps up to date on latest developments in the field.
• Contributes to the direction of interactive marketing strategies and concepts as they relate to overall marketing business goals.
• Research and makes recommendations for establishing relationships for selected third-party vendors (technologies, agencies, designers, animators, video production, photographers or illustrators) when need be.
• Manages, mentors and creates strong team-centric atmosphere.
Required Skills
Qualifications / skills include:
Education
• BFA or BA preferred. The equivalent in work experience and self-study may be substituted.
Experience
• A minimum of 7-9+ years of directly related experience in interactive design is required with 3 years experience as Interactive Art Director. Agency or UI experience or a plus.
• Expert Photoshop and Illustrator skills are required. Understanding of and able to design for Flash and HTML. Proficient in iWorks and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Fireworks, CSS, Dreamweaver, GoLive, iWorks and Microsoft Office is a plus.
• Knowledge of browser and code technologies and limitations and has an understanding of Video technology as it relates to online video delivery.
• Superior visual literacy and expert understanding of typography, illustration, and photography.
• Demonstrated experience participating in full cycle design projects is required.
Qualifications
• Must posses the ability to lead concepting, as well as lead presentation, applications and promotional designs.
• Must have strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively before clients, staff or other internal and external groups.
• Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment with multi-disciplinary teams required.
• The ability to successfully organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment is a must.
• Must demonstrate a solid understanding of current creative media, technologies and trends.
• Supervisory experience is required.
• Must posses the ability to guide other team members in the artistic development and execution of creative within pre-defined objectives.
• Must be a creative, self-motivated team player willing to take the lead to develop cutting-edge solutions.
• Must demonstrate initiative to initiate and build relationships both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management.
• Ability to create estimates, proposals and budgets.
• Understanding of project management process and expert use of process tools.
• Ability to allocate resource and manage projects from a design perspective.
• A strong portfolio of solid web and multi-media are required. Industry accolades, published work, broadcast, print, identity, packaging, storyboard sketches, conceptual sketches are a plus.
