About the Position: The Louisville Corps of Engineers District Office is located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, at the Romano Mazzoli Federal Building. There is a parking garage next to the building and the building is on bus routes which provide public transportation to all parts of the city. It is a short walk from the downtown entertainment district and the arts district (Louisville is home to a world-renown orchestra and theatre as well as the ballet) and close to the Ohio River and its waterfront, as well as the Triple A baseball stadium. Louisville is known for its parks system, most of which was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, and its big city amenities and small town feel. Louisville has an outstanding public school system and several recognized colleges and universities.

Major Duties

Advises the Dredging and Navigation Team Leader for the District?s hydrographic survey program, which is a basis for navigational charts, navigation channel inspections, submerged foundation surveys and sedimentation surveys. Assists with long-term planning relating to the district?s dredging and hydrographic survey program. Responsible for assisting in the development of evaluation requirements and evaluation technical and special contract requirements and provisions relating to channel maintenance dredging contracts for Louisville District?s maintenance dredging of approach channels to public access sites and emergency maintenance dredging and various other dredging projects as assigned. As contract administrator, prepare and reviews cost analyses, budget estimates, and contractor bid estimates. As the Navigation and Dredge Team?s advisor on dredging related issues. Performs technical review of dredging equipment, performance and compliance with engineering practices.

Qualifications

Best qualified candidates must demonstrate in their resumes experience inspecting quality control and quality assurance criteria for proper execution of hydrographic survey and dredging projects. Performing preliminary review of foundation surveys to determine any significant areas of erosion or scour. Advising and assisting in preparation of construction navigation contracts. Preparing and reviewing cost analyses, budget estimates, and contractor bid estimates. Preparing design sketches, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering planning requests for proposed repairs and alterations to navigation locks and dams and flood control structures.
