The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the Department of
Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal
health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The IHS
provides a comprehensive health services delivery system for
American Indians and Alaska Natives with opportunity for maximum
tribal involvement in developing and managing programs to meet their
health needs.
The purpose of this position is to provide professional accounting
services in preparing, summarizing, and maintaining the timely and
accurate financial reporting requirements for the Billings Area
Indian Health Service. Primary responsibilities are in relation to
the Accounts Receivable (AR) and Projects Accounting (PA) module
functions of the Unified Financial Management System (UFMS)

Major Duties
Primary responsibilities are in relation to the Accounts Receivable
(AR) and Projects Accounting (PA) module functions of the Unified
Financial Management System (UFMS): Ensures ongoing required
functions are performed correctly within UFMS. Internal Control
Program Reviews: Advises and assists FMO in the analysis of
accounting regulations and directives, conducts reviews, analyses
and random sampling audits, develops written procedures, methods and
guidelines, prepares and conducts informal/formal oral
presentations. Certifying Officer: Receives invoices, receiving
reports and other fiscal documentation for payment requests, insures
correctness, determines that payment requests are in accordance with
terms of conditions of contractural agreements, suspends and/or
disapproves items of cost; Supervisory Responsibilities: Performs
the full spectrum of supervisory accountant responsibilities as
first line supervisor. In the absence of the FMO, alternately
assumes full responsibility for the DFM. May also serve as Acting
Supervisor to the other units in temporary absence of Unit
Supervisor.
