Major Duties
DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol; Superintendent, Capitol Building; Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) Transition Division. The incumbent is an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Worker and performs duties involved with installation, maintenance, and repair of systems providing a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration functions including heating, cooling, cleaning, filtering, and circulating to condition the air in the CVC. Maintains a variety of commercial and industrial systems. Works on a variety of commercial and industrial systems. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs systems using mechanical compression, vapor, steam, and air cycle methods to heat, cool, humidify, clean, filter, circulate, and condition the air to levels required for a variety of facilities. Installs refrigeration, air conditioning, steam operated kitchen equipment, and exhaust fan equipment by connecting lines, controls, compressors, evaporators and condensers, steam lines and valves, and charges system with proper refrigerants and oils. Operates equipment and checks system for leaks and ensures proper operations and required temperature levels. Systems worked on include those with a variety of compressors such as gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, or rotary pump, and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low and high pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary or choke types, and those based on volume or quantity changes. A variety of complicated motor controls are also used such as hermetically sealed motors and pressure controls, thermostatic motor controls (remote and double remote), full and semi-automatic defrosting controls, relays, and other controls to protect against overload or overheating. Various types of power sources are used with various combinations or pulleys, belts, horsepower capacity, and tensioners.
