This position serves as Associate Regional Director for Resources and Subsistence in the Alaska Regional Office.

Major Duties


The Associate Regional Director, Resources and Subsistence is responsible for planning, execution, policy development, management, coordination and evaluation of regional programs in the broad areas of Cultural Resources, Natural Resources, Inventory and Monitoring, Geographic Information Systems, and Subsistence Management.   Directs subordinate program managers who supervise staff providing expertise and service in the same areas listed above.   Serves as the regional expert and provides or oversees the provision of authoritative advice and interpretation to the Regional Director and park superintendents on the programs managed.   Incumbent will contribute to the formulation, adoption and implementation of Servicewide policies and programs.   Participates as an active member on national advisory groups.   Participates in or leads Servicewide task forces and committees.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement detailed above, applicants must meet specialized experience requirements detailed below.




For the GS-14 grade level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service.  Specialized experience may include, but is not limited to the following examples: Experience directing and administering a natural and cultural resource management program, involving the preservation, protection, and use of natural and cultural resources.   Typically, this experience includes leadership in the preparation and coordination of complex natural and cultural resource management plans, programs, documents, and budgets.   Specialized experience must demonstrate a comprehensive or advanced working knowledge of Natural and Cultural Resources Management.
