CommTech 4 will be expected to function with an increasing degree of proficiency and a decreasing degree of supervision with regard to those skills and tasks for which training and instruction are received during tenure in this position.
Perform routine troubleshooting calls: troubleshoot the plant from the customers' equipment through the distribution/feeder cable (if applicable) to the first active in order to restore subscriber service.
Survey the plant in order to ensure service availability to potential subscribers.
Perform underground location of existing plant using system prints and cable locating equipment in order to prevent cable damage and service interruption.
Respond to and repair service interruptions during regular business hours and when on-call as required.
Perform CLI ride-out and track and repair leakage, as necessary.
Perform construction maintenance duties.
Splice aerial/underground coaxial cable and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification. Repair and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant, Repair and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant.
Perform customer drop installations complete from tap to customer equipment in single and multi-family dwellings including prewired units; perform installations adhering to Comcast procedures and safe work practices, NEC and NESC requirements, and local ordinances in order to provide services to the customer.
Clean, maintain and stock vehicle and equipment in order to be prepared to handle all types of installations.
Inspect existing ground or make new ground according to the National Electrical Code (NEC) in order to protect employees, customers, and equipment from electrical shock or damage.
Complete associated paperwork with each work order in a timely manner to ensure all details of the work are recorded for entry in the customers account once the work is checked in.
Determine acceptability of service by reviewing picture quality following installation or service call in order to provide the best possible service for the customer.
Provide the customer with materials regarding channel line up, use of converter and company policies as they relate to the customer as well as demonstrate these skills in order to educate the customer on the use of the equipment and company guidelines.
Provide information on available services to new and existing customers in order to sell additional services and attempt to upgrade existing services.
Pre-wire single homes and multiple dwelling units (MDUs) in order to provide ready hook-up capabilities at the time of occupancy.
Properly operate and maintain installation/service tools and equipment.
Report need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed.
Report any accidents, losses, injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer when appropriate.
Apply knowledge and skills of training on the job in order to prepare for transition to CommTech 5.
Perform other duties as requested by supervisor in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Perform troubleshooting calls to resolve any service failures related to Comcast's online product (Broadband).
Resolve service failures where the modem has failed to synch with the Cable Router, generally indicated by a blinking cable light on the modem.
Resolve connectivity related service failures where modem has properly synched with router but PC does not communicate with online network.
Resolve service failures related to the customer PC (hardware, operating system, and software).
Resolve service failures that result from customers' inability to operate service or PC.

Required Skills

For entry to the position of CommTech 4 - 6, an employee must have achieved CommTech 3 certification, and completed the CommTech 4 training.
For entry to the position of CommTech 4 (Broadband), an employee must demonstrate progress commensurate with their current tenure as CommTech 3 (Broadband).
Employees promoted to CommTech 4 (Broadband) must complete all requisite training through CommTech 4 within 90 days.
External applicants must possess equivalent RF or Data experience and, if hired, complete all requisite training through CommTech 4 within 90 days.
High School Diploma or GED Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
Clean background, criminal check and drug screening.
Able to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
Associates degree in Electronics preferred.
Punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
