The portal for a State Government agency has a position available for an Exchange Administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include daily administration, support and planning of the Company's current and future Windows-based server systems as it relates to the Messaging/Exchange mail system. The Exchange Administrator is expected to approach problems with a wide degree of ownership in order to determine solutions, and work professional hours, which may include extended or after hours support.
Additionally, the Exchange Administrator:

Provides support for Exchange outages and troubleshooting.
Performs hardware and software maintenance (i.e., updates and maintains patch management for hardware and software).
Interfaces with users to troubleshoot Exchange/Outlook problems.
Produces and interprets Exchange performance trends.
Prepares and updates Exchange documentation; reviews and maintains relevant design requirements documentation.
Makes recommendations to improve functionality, performance, and standards compliance; defines and enforces Company technical standards, procedures and best practices.
Communicates Exchange related plans, status and issues to Management on a regular basis.
Serves as an escalation point for Exchange/Outlook issues within IT.
Administrates Exchange authentication and security configuration.
Evaluates, recommends, and drafts policies regarding backup configuration, implementation, and monitoring.
Performs disaster recovery and high availability planning, configuration, and testing.
Provides Performance/System monitoring and log analysis.
Provides backups and takes care of other disaster preparedness.
Performs Exchange database maintenance, backup, and disaster recovery planning and practice.
Identifies and mitigates project risks.
Supports all Exchange MAPI clients and troubleshoots client performance and connectivity issue at the LAN and Network levels
Provides technical knowledge transfer to other team members on staff.
Participates in regular on-call responsibilities that may include 24x7 support.

Required Skills for this Exchange/Systems Administrator position include the following:

5+ years of experience in Systems Administration of mission critical Microsoft systems
3-5 years of experience administrating an Exchange environment

Must have recent Exchange 2007 experience
Prior experience with Exchange 5.5/2000/2003 expected

Experience with backend storage configuration using ISCSI SAN
Experience with Exchange architecture and design concepts in order to assist in upcoming Archive and HA/Disaster Recovery Projects
Experience supporting and troubleshooting mail routing and transport
4+ years of experience with implementation and configuration of SMTP Gateways, Anti-virus, and Anti-spam tools in an Enterprise environment
5+ years of experience with Windows and Active Directory Domain Administration
5+ years of experience with TCP/IP-based technologies and protocols related to e-mail and other electronic collaboration tools, namely DNS, SMTP, POP, IMAP, WINS, FTP, HTTP(S), NNTP, and LDAP
Experience supporting and implementing additional applications to Exchange such as Fax, Encryption, and Archiving
Experience with Intel-based server hardware and related technologies

Additional Requirements:

Experience supporting Exchange production server build and configurations including:

Disk subsystem configuration and performance including SAN architecture
Exchange monitoring setup/configuration using MOM
Exchange server clusters in production environment
High-availability architecture design (i.e. clusters, SAN, failover systems, disaster recovery sites, data replication)

Solid understanding of Exchange and Active Directory tool sets such LDP, ADSIEdit, LDIFDE, ESEUTIL, MFCMAPI, MDBVUE, and PFDAVADMIN
Has advanced proficiency in the following:

Active Directory
Disaster Recovery Exchange Server
Microsoft Exchange
Systems Administration
VMware
Windows 2003

Soft Skills:

Good interpersonal skills, along with the ability to exercise tact

Analytical skills

Ability to be pro-active with a sense of urgency
