Job Listing: Application Support Specialist

TEKsystems is currently seeking an Application Support Specialist for a contract position in Newtown Square, PA.

This person will deliver support to end users in the organization about use of various types of software programs efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. Troubleshoot applications and software for all internal customers, as well as external customers as appropriate. Assist in the design, delivery, and enhancement of in-house software applications training programs and related courseware.

- Identify and assess needs for new computer software, modifications and enhancements to existing programs, or replacements of software systems. Investigate, troubleshoot and test new software systems and components. Assist in the review, recommendation and implementation for improvements and enhancements to department programs and services on an ongoing basis.
- Create and deploy feedback mechanisms for assessment of overall system performance. Analyze results, make recommendations for process improvement, and implement changes.
- Field incoming problem tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues within servers, databases, and other mission-critical systems. Create appropriate documentation to ensure complete review of issue and any information needed for future follow-up.
- Prioritize, schedule, and administer all instances where enhancements and defect resolution are required.
- Perform fixes at the server level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring applications.
- Record, track, and document the problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution. Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting. Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent repeated future problems.
- Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leaders.
- Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been adequately resolved.
- Provide support for the testing of new and existing software applications under development or consideration for purchase.
- Maintain and enhance performance of all new and existing software and applications across the organization.
- Coordinate and assess organization application training needs and objectives. Provide user training, evaluation and support of integrated software systems and packages (both commercial, off the shelf and custom developed), utilization of association systems, structure of end-user accessible databases, and desktop productivity software throughout the company. (including phone and E-mail support)
- Share software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources as appropriate on company intranet to assist in problem resolution.
- Perform preventative maintenance at the server level, including the installation of service packs, patches, hot fixes, anti-virus software, and so on.
- Conduct research into software application products and services in support of development and purchasing efforts.
- Contribute to department and technology plans, including assembling and developing requirements.
- Serve as a lead resource for assigned technology areas to support the attainment of organization objectives. Identify, assess, and present alignment with appropriate processes and program areas.
- Assist with communications among end users and information technology roles.

- Experience in developing and conducting user training.
- In-depth, hands-on knowledge of and experience with enterprise and desktop applications, in at least two relevant PMI technology areas or skill sets (e.g. personal computers, SQL, MS Windows, MS Office, MS Access and/or Seagate Crystal Reports).

Ability to operate computer equipment for prolonged periods of time including:
- Keyboarding
- Viewing more than 1 computer screen while multi-tasking
- Operating and maintaining printers and copiers

Certifications as Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) desirable, with emphasis on CommerceServer, BizTalk, or Sharepoint technologies.
