KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build, configure, maintain, and monitor Windows and Linux servers in a production environment
- Assist in architecting for high availability and scalability
- Responsible for maintaining SAN, local and networked storage and backups
- Assist with configuration and maintenance of network including firewalls, routers and switches
- Maintain a fully functional test lab.
- Record, track, and document all pertinent information relating to the systems being maintained.
- Provide technical expertise to architect and support applications and technologies in a large scale 24 x 7 environment.
- Become expert on the platform settings/configurations and maintain documentation on the system configuration for changes, new releases, bug fixes, project release notes, etc.
- Worldwide Management of the data center (co-location) facilities and establishment of new POP's from the ground-up
- Ensure Power Platform scalability, redundancy, high availability, and load balancing over multiple geographic regions
- Monitor and manage system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, backup systems, and response times to maintain operating efficiency
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date disaster recovery plan
- Research & purchase new platform hardware and software
- Strict adherence to defining and documenting policies and procedures (change management, asset management etc.)
- This position will likely become a Director level position in the future but for now they need someone that is willing to do the work.
The items below are “must-haves”
Expertise with Windows Server. Must have significant and deep Windows Server experience. Having installed it and administered it for a few years isn't adequate. They must be expert on installing, configuring, and troubleshooting. Must have deep Active Directory, Exchange and SQL Server experience. Should have Windows clustering experience. Must have recent and fairly extensive experience and skill with routers, switches and firewalls. Preferably Cisco but vendor isn't as important. Occasionally setting up a VLAN on an office switch isn't deep enough. They don't need to be a full-time Network Admin or be an expert but they need to be able to hit the ground running in configuring our switches and routers. Must have some Linux/Unix experience. Don't need to be expert but need to be able to setup and configure a Linux server. It’s important that they've worked in or at least understand how a big IT shop operates. Must be familiar with following processes, procedures and change control. Must be good at documentation. Must have some scripting or programming experience. The language isn't as important as is their ability to read and write scripts if needed and to read basic code if needed
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Minimum 3 years experience administering large networks or datacenter
- Expertise with Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 required
- Experience with administration of MS SQL Server 2000/2005 required, clustering experience helpful
- Experience with MS Exchange Server 2003 or 2007
- Experience with Cisco routers, switches and firewalls, Cisco certification preferred
- VoIP and Telecom experience including in-depth knowledge of SIP extremely helpful
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be extremely detail and process oriented
- Ability to present and promote ideas and recommendations to all levels in an organization
- Ability to trouble shoot and solve problems of a non-routine nature
