A nationally well-known pharmacy is in search of contract pharmacists across Northern California. These pharmacists will be responsible for compounding and dispensing medications following prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, or other authorized medical practitioners. All pharmacists who accept these positions shall be qualified, willing and able to perform any or all of the following services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The general duties and responsibilities expected of pharmacy staff are summarized below:
- Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws
- Comply with all pharmacy policies (e.g. Dress Code, Grooming Standards, Attendance, Sexual Harassment Policy, etc)
- Comply with State and Federal Laws with regards to consultation
- Provide Superior customer service (e.g. special requests, inquiries regarding prescriptions, customer complaints, OTC recommendations, etc)
- Conduct patient consultations and respond to patient questions
- Assist patients with OTC product selection
- Be available to check in central fill
- Answer regular and doctor phone lines in a courteous manner using appropriate store greeting
- Accept new oral prescriptions from doctors and nurses
- Take new prescriptions or refill information off Doctor Phone Line
- Perform prescription transfers from other pharmacies
- Participate in 100% notification (make calls to patients)
- Fill Prescriptions including but not limited to schedule II
- When filling a CII fill Rx, place sticker in book and balance book
- Be responsible for quality control of prescriptions filled by interns or technicians
- Complete incident reports for prescriptions errors within 24 hours of notification
- Assist in maintaining a clean and professional pharmacy
- Perform drug utilization review
- Order and check in schedule II orders immediately
- Review reports (e.g. Daily Transaction Report, POS Exception, Control Substance Report, etc.), print, sign and file (with support of Technician if needed)
- Help with inventory management (cycle counting, returns, physical inventory)
- Process PIRs (Prescription Investigation Reports). This requires the pharmacist to take care of a prescription error if it is brought to his or her attention on the day they work. To take care of means the pharmacist must contact help desk and get authorization to sign on the PIR screen and create a Prescription Investigation Report.
- Maximize pharmacy profitability (defined as but not limited to: Utilize generic substitution where applicable, Order drugs from appropriate wholesalers in correct quantities and Promote current programs that help with customer loyalty, i.e. auto fills, delivery where applicable.
- Sign for drug deliveries
- Handle patient concerns in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager
- Manage daily workflow in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager
- Assist in shrink control
- Order products (store specific)
- Review of Pro-Order (store specific)
- Assist in pharmacy audits
- Assist in recalls
- Perform assigned management functions
- Perform data processing
In addition, store-specific duties and responsibilities may be communicated at the store location. The pharmacist shall be expected to perform any of the general or store-specific duties and responsibilities.
Additional Requirements
Licensure. Each pharmacist must be licensed to practice in California. Such license must be valid and current.
Attendance: Each pharmacist must report on time for the beginning of his or her shift. If the pharmacist arrives early he or she will not be paid until the specified start time. If responsible for opening a pharmacy, the pharmacist must have the lock box in hand and at the door of the pharmacy to open at the scheduled start time.
Dress Code & Grooming Standards: Each pharmacist must adhere to the pharmacy’s store dress code and grooming policy, which is necessary in order to maintain consistency of appearance of all pharmacy staff and to project a professional image to the pharmacy’s customers.
HIPAA Compliance: Each pharmacist must strictly comply with all requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and regulations adopted there under relating to the privacy and security of Protected Health Information.
