Job Listing: Opto-Mechanical Assembler

DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for assembling, aligning, testing and configuring optical, electronic, mechanical and fluidic components. Perform in accordance with released procedures, drawings, schematics and wiring tables. All work is performed in accordance with documented procedures and industry international standards and defense related.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepares & builds opto-mechanical production sub-assemblies and final assemblies in accordance with specified manufacturing processes, ensuring full conformance to specifications.
- Generates and records assembly data and documentation including product and component traceability and test data.
- Perform mechanical measurements using basic measuring tools.
- Assists senior assemblers.
- Interacts with manufacturing Engineers and quality Assurance to resolve problems and implement improvements.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly and organized work area.
- Responsible for safe handling of solvents and epoxies.
- Perform wide variety of optical, electronic or electro-mechanic assembly operations on assemblies or sub-assemblies.
- Quality control of assembly and alignment processes.
- Clean and assemble optical assemblies.
- Calibrate laser Collimator systems.
- Test assemblies and systems using testing software, download firmware.
- Record test and build data into databases as assemblies are tested.
- Assemble cables, plugs and wire harnesses.
- Assemble circuit card assemblies and subassemblies.


DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

- Computer literate, ability to enter test data and labor (1 year).
- Previous optic-mechanical assembly experience preferred (1 year).
- Previous experience with mechanical assembly, following assembly procedures, use of basic hand tools.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

- High school diploma or equivalent or previously related assembly work experience.
- Five year assembly experience.
- Understanding the basic concepts of optics, electronic assembly, electrical assembly and mechanical assembly.
- Ability to perform well and maintain production flow under noisy and disruptive situations.
- Experience using and reading calipers and micrometers.
- Familiarity with the metric measuring system.
- Excellent dexterity and good eyesight. Requires assembly of small components and fine adjustments to close tolerances.
- Measurement of adjustments using both linear and digital verniers scales of calipers.
- Working knowledge of color code and capability to identify components.
- Proficient with ESD safety requirements.
- Experience with optics handling and cleaning.
- Ability to follow established inspection procedures.
- Must be able to read and understand mechanical and electronic drawings, diagrams and layout.
- Work independently and be reliable.
- Read and interpret engineering specification from text and drawings.
- Use of measuring tools and hand tools.
- Read mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Use a variety of tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Able to fit, align, calibrate and adjust parts and mechanical units to meet specifications and requirements.
- Able to fit and bond parts and mechanical parts using adhesives to meet specifications and requirements.
- Able to self check and inspect work in process.
- Able to stand for 8 hours a day.

Preferred:

- Good computer skills: Hand on working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Work and Excel.
- Experience working in Lean Manufacturing environment.
- Experience with 5S housekeeping proactive.
- Good hand and soldering skills.
- Familiar with standard shop practices used in the defense related industries.
- Experience performing complicated set-up and testing for incoming and in-process inspection of flat and spherical optics.
- Working knowledge of color code and capability to identify components.
- Experience with OPC 610 workmanship standards.
- Experience with ISO-9000 Standards or other similar standards.
