Job Listing: Computer Operator

TEKsystem is looking for 4 Computer Operator for a client in the Fort Washington PA area. Must be willing to work different shifts. The Computer Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating mid-range client server systems, monitoring network components for error conditions, and providing support for system and application backups. The Computer Operator will also act as primary focal points for communication to the data center during off-hour periods. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the Information Technology field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks and goals. Performs a variety of tasks and works under limited supervision. A limited degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Utilizes existing monitoring tools to monitor all computer systems for problems or error messages in order to minimize service disruptions following existing escalation and communications procedures when handling errors and problems.
- Escalates non-standard issues and activities to Level 2 and Level 3 support resources.
- Completes daily and weekly shift activities in an accurate and timely manner.
- Interacts with computer systems, monitoring tools, and peripheral hardware to perform routine processes as well as documented 1st level support tasks.
- Answers help desk calls from customers and utilizes help desk system and scripts to open incident tickets, tracking open calls/tickets, and acts as the primary focal point for Data Center customers.
- Communicates problem statuses to business units per established SLA’s.
- Performs tape management functions according to existing procedures.
- Understands the systems and responds to outages in the UPS System, A/C System and fire suppression systems.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Strong experience with data center operational concepts and procedures.
- Good working knowledge of mid-range client server systems which may include Compaq-Alpha, HP 3000e, IBM AS400 and AIX, Operating Systems including UNIX, VMS, HP-UNIX.
- Working knowledge of system monitoring tools such as Visual Uptime, Domino Administrator and Compaq Insight Manager as well as HP Openview monitoring tools.
- Familiar with basic application back ups including tape mounting and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding.
- Must demonstrate good initiative and organizational skills, and be able to work with limited supervision..
- Exhibits an ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy.
- Works well under stress with the ability to deliver on time.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experienced with LotusNotes Email & Calendar system.
