Job Listing: Software Systems Engineer - Unix, Solaris, SANs
Volt Technical Resources has a Software Systems Engineer position available for a Software Systems Engineer to work with a State Government Agency.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintains hardware/software configurations for Sun Enterprise Unix Systems located in a Data Center
Generates, installs, implements and maintains systems-level software packages running on multi-user high end Sun Unix Servers. These software packages include: Solaris OS and clustering, disk and file management systems, backup applications, Oracle, PeopleSoft applications, SunOne products, TomCat, Perl, Java and Secure Shell
Designs and integrates Solaris and Linux Systems with SANs
Develops, installs and maintains utility programs/shell scripts to handle system level functions
Provides technical assistance to persons designing and implementing computer hardware/software systems/interfaces that will run on Unix/Linux platform
Assists Service Engineers, Vendor Software Support Personnel and other Vendor Hardware/Software Specialists in isolating and resolving hardware and software problems
Monitors performance of Unix servers
Isolates, corrects and improves operational efficiency through changes to the software or reconfiguration of the hardware
Provides technical deliverables to Project Managers using formal PM methodologies
Evaluates and makes recommendations for new computer hardware and/or software systems
Performs project coordination, in support of Solaris OS and related software/hardware changes/additions, from project inception to project completion
Assist with coordinating efforts of Project Team, Vendors, Consultants and/or other agencies to complete projects or complex tasks
Functions, project planning and systems software and hardware configurations
Supports SDLC, Configuration, Change, Request and Problem Management operations and guidelines
Participates in on-call rotation and may be required to work an alternate shift (infrequently)
This is an estimated 7 month contract position, through Volt Technical Resources - a division of a Fortune 1000 publicly traded Staffing Industry Leader, based in Atlanta, GA. Required Skills
Required Skills for this Software System Engineer position include the following:
Years of Required Experience:
4 years experience as a Senior Unix Systems Programmer/Administrator/Engineer
2 years experience with Sun clustering and high-availability solutions
4 years experience with shell scripting
4 years experience with IP networking
2 years experience with Linux
2 years experience with n-Tiered architecture
2 years experience with SANs (Storage Area Networks) across Unix
2 years experience with e-Business applications such SunOne/iPlanet or Websphere
1 year experience with ERP-class application
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Project Management, Release management
EMC SAN devices experience
Experience with Veritas tape backup and restore operations
Heavy experience with Sun hardware and Solaris v2.6-2.9 and 10
Application Service Provider experience
J2EE Framework experience
Sun Java System Application Server
Experience with Windows 2003/2000/NT
BS Degree
Other: Candidate must be local, have cell phone and full functioning laptop with minimum specs of 1.8GHz CPU, 2G RAM, 80G HD, 1920x1200 graphics, MS Office 2003 with Visio and Project.
