Job Listing: Lead Network Administrator

Teksystems has an exciting opportunity with a Communications client in downtown Chicago for a Lead Network Administrator. This will initially be a 6 month contract with probability for extensions.

The Network Lead will be responsible for the LAN/WAN systems and overseeing the Network Administrator. We would like this person to have a good Knowledge of Nortel routers and switches along with firewall experience. Basically LAN and Wan Management and solid Networking experience. Position Overview:

The Senior Systems/Network Administrator will be focused on ensuring availability of the local office network, application servers, desktop infrastructure and phone system. The Senior Systems/Network Administrator will lead projects involving these systems.

Job Responsibilities:

· Support corporate MS-Exchange based email system

· Local corporate local area network (including networking equipment such firewalls and routers)

· Support user environment of Windows 2000 and Windows XP desktops

· Work with, implement, and troubleshoot RedHat Enterprise Linux as well as Windows-based servers and workstations

· Run Ethernet, rack equipment, or troubleshoot hardware failures

· System and network design, planning and maintenance

· Able to multi-task as they will be interrupted with unforeseen needs regularly

· Work alongside the other Systems/Network Engineer to manage the IT department for a rapidly growing company

· Transition the network/systems management process to a more proactive model

· Linux systems installation (particularly RedHat and Fedora), as well as setting up and maintaining a Firewall, Routers and Managed Switches

Requirements:

· Must have minimum of 4+ years experience in Windows Server/Unix/Linux system administration. Must have 6+ years experience in a real time, 24/7 environment.

· Solid understanding: Unix/Linux paging & swapping; inter-process communications; networking/distributed computing; Prior experience with Office PBX, Voicemail and Telephone Systems a big plus!

· Ability to troubleshoot standard office Ethernet networking.

· Ability to work with, implement and troubleshoot both RedHat Enterprise Linux as well as Windows-based servers and workstations.

· Experience working hands on to run Ethernet, rack equipment, and troubleshoot hardware failures.

· Experience programming with any administrative language such as Perl, Python, Shell Scripting to write automation scripts for remote upgrades and updates, a plus.

· Other Plusses: ISP, Storage, Network Appliances, SAN, NAS, Apache web servers, project management, data center, and security.
