This Open-Source Software Lab is the only group that lives and breathes Linux and OSS on a daily basis. Members of this group must be experts in all things OSS and Linux and must enjoy learning and exploring new technologies.
The OSS Lab's primary focus is research and development. The tasks range from product evaluations, systems analysis, coding and everything in between. It is a year of exploration and a unique opportunity for somebody that wants to be at the forefront of changes that are taking place in the OSS communities today.

Required Skills

Required Skills for this Software Test Engineer includes 5 or more years of recent experience in the following:
Linux administration and installation in production environments. (Including but not limited to deployment, system configuration, support, troubleshooting and monitoring)
Intimately familiar with the core components of the Linux operating system, including building and deploying custom Linux kernels
Proven usage of the following technologies on Linux in production environments:

Apache
PHP
MySQL
Samba
Network Configurations
X Windows, KDE and GNOME
Building, installing and troubleshooting device drivers
Worked with one or more major Linux distributions. (e.g. SUSE, Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora)
In-depth usage of a programming/scripting language commonly used for configuration and administration with Linux. (e.g. Bash, Perl, Python, Awk and Sed)
Worked in mixed environments. (e.g. Linux, Windows, Unix, etc)
Able to work in a team that has highly motivated and knowledgeable
Quick learner of all things OSS
Great analysis and debugging skills
High degree of intellectual curiosity and commitment to the Open Source community and technologies
Demonstrated independence in testing production code and providing high quality product feedback
Great skill in written and verbal communications
Process and methodology driven- work with minimal guidance
Bonus Skills:
VPN Deployments in mixed environments
Healthy skepticism for OSS
Have Worked with embedded Linux
Actively contribute to OSS community projects
B.A. in Computer Science (or equivalent)
High familiarity with most larger Linux projects in the areas of usage and deployment (e.g. Open Office and Firefox)
Familiar with creating and executing test harnesses, deployment and administration of HPC systems and Virtualization technologies such as Xen
Hands on experience with web technologies (Java, J2EE, AJAX, etc)
