The headquarters of a health and retirement fund for an entertainment labor union is seeking a Systems Engineer for a Contract position.
OVERVIEW:
The Systems Engineer will be a key member of the IT Operations staff, who will take an active role in the administration, and maintenance of the system, network and all operational components of Our Client's technology infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will also assist in the day-to-day support of the 150+ employees at Our Client Company.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Systems Engineer:

Plays a hands-on role in the:

Planning, design, build-out, and maintenance of the system/network infrastructure, as well as the operational enhancement and performance/availability of a multi-site IT environment.
Planning, design, building, implementation, and operation of Disaster Recovery infrastructure as per the SLA (Service Level Agreement) or Business Continuity Plan.

Is responsible for helping create technical project plans, as well as meeting project deliverables on-time and on-budget.
Must be available 24/7 and respond to Operational Escalation alerts of the above-mentioned systems, platforms, and infrastructure.
Must also be able to work on several projects simultaneously, while handling day-to-day support issues.
Provides Tier 3 desktop support as needed.
Works with various third-party providers and vendors.

This is the headquarters for a $2 billion fund serving the health and retirement needs of Union members, as well as qualified non-Union participants. Our Client is a separate, non-union entity managed independently from this particular Union, which is made up of people who entertain and inform America. In 32 Locals across the country, the Union's members work across media industries such as television, radio, cable, sound recordings, music videos, commercials, audio books, non-broadcast industrials, interactive games, the Internet, and other digital media.
This is a Contract position through Volt Technical Resources - a division of a Fortune 1000 publicly traded Staffing Industry Leader, based in New York City. Required Skills

Required Skills for this Systems Engineer position include the following:

3+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer, working in a fast-paced team environment; should include 24/7 operational, on-call support availability
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or related experience a must
Extensive experience with building, configuring, and managing:

Windows (2000/2003) Servers
Web Servers (IIS)
MS-SQL Clustering
Monitoring Systems

Experience with Active Directory Design and Administration (Windows 2003)
Extensive experience with supporting Microsoft Exchange Server
1½-3 years of experience:

With Fiber SANs (HP preferred)
Working with VMware ESX server and VMware Virtual Center in a mission-critical environment

Extensive TCP/IP Design and Analysis experience
Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SSL, VPNs, and remote monitoring/administration of servers
Extensive knowledge of Cisco PIX :

Firewalls
Switches
Routers
IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems)

Solid communication and negotiation skills with third-party vendors, and collaboration skills with various IT units (both in the US and International)
Understands and adheres to corporate policies that maintain and protect the confidentiality of sensitive customer and internal information, and is able to suggest additional industry Best Practices
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and capacity to creatively solve problems
Working knowledge of HP3000 and HP9000 a plus
Microsoft-certified IT professional or Microsoft-certified Architect a plus
