Job Listing: Unix System Administrator
System Administrator is responsible for providing support for our clients technical infrastructure and their Engineering Teams in design, deployment and maintenance of their applications. In this critical role, the System Administrator will work closely with the Application Support Analyst, Product Management and Engineering Teams to monitor and ensure infrastructure systems are performing seamlessly.
Work with the Technical and Product Management Teams to design architecture and/or application configurations within company infrastructure.
Develop/update status reports on delivery service metrics and infrastructure capacity planning.
Provide technical systems and application support for infrastructure, working nights and weekends as required.
Perform installation, maintenance, and problem resolution of application server hardware and operating systems.
Execute problem management, which includes problem determination, documentation, reporting and resolution for all infrastructure issues.
Research and recommend server hardware and software acquisitions.
Aid in formalizations for new or expanded support needs to meet business requirements.
Adhere strictly to all policies and processes concerning support, change management and security.
Create and execute Disaster Recovery Policies and Procedures.
Participate in product planning meetings.
Provide routine System Administrator duties such as, user management, system updates/patches, security and file system management.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate will have a track record of success in a team environment with demonstrated analytic and troubleshooting skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills regarding operational and service issues.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong problem solving skills centered on technical information and providing relevant and thought-out solutions.
Understanding of email messaging and protocols.
Minimum of 4+ years working in a production Unix environment, including Solaris, Linux, Java, Perl and Apache.
Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
Strong knowledge of Solaris and Linux Server configuration, installation, testing, and maintenance.
Good working knowledge Windows 200 server and IIS.
Server performance management tuning skills using system and network monitoring tools.
Web server configuration and support skills.
Backup and recovery implementation skills.
Network administration experience with switches, routers, firewalls, DNS, etc...
UNIX and Windows security polices and practices experience.
Network files and print services experience.
End user administration & direct user support experience.
Ability to provide after hours on-call support (pager).
Familiarity with UNIX command-level file processing and automation through scripting, including PERL Scripting is very helpful.
Experience administering Network switches and firewalls.
Comfort with standards and secure file transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP, SCP, HTTP, HTTPS, PGP) is very helpful.
Good familiarity with email delivery best practices for senders, anti-spam techniques for receivers and deliverability issues overall is desired.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
