REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND:
2+ years of focused database administrator duties in SQL 2000 environment, (2005 experience a plus)
BS in computer science, engineering, or related field (experience may substitute for degree)
Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to interact with large development team (20+ developers located in Tempe, AZ and Tipperary Ireland) and respond quickly and effectively while ensuring standards and best practices are enforced.
Proven experience writing and executing complex procedures, scripts, DTS/SSIS packages in an enterprise environment.
Comfortable with multi-database backup/restore/recovery procedures within limited timeframes
Experience/knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley, PCI Compliance & Disaster Recovery policy/procedures and best practices a plus.
Experience/knowledge of the following software packages a plus:
- Embarcadero DBArtisan, ER/Studio
- ERWin
- Quest Software SQL LiteSpeed
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for day to day (24x7) management of large-scale SQL 2000 Enterprise (30+ database servers) production, QA and development environment.
- Primary responsibilities include execution of developer-written SQL procedures & scripts. Assist development personnel in identifying performance-improvement opportunities
- Ensuring compliance with corporate coding standards is enforced
- Maintain backups, transaction logs and log-shipping
- Create, maintain and manage indexes. Assist development personnel in identifying index opportunities and enforcing standards and best practices of such
- Constant scrutiny of existing processes and jobs to identify bottlenecks, potential scalability issues, general best practices and performance gains
- Responsibility for documentation of configurations (server & DB), database design, disaster recovery procedures & scripts, rollback process for major releases, ERD, etc.
- Assist with performance tuning of existing DB processes as well as new features/implementations
- Ensuring scalability and maintainability of 300+GB production environment
