Job Listing: Sr. Systems Engineer

TEKsystems is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer for our client in Raleigh, NC. This is a contract right-to-hire position. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, capacity planning, and optimization of server and storage infrastructure, and will apply expert knowledge and skills to deliver secure, fault tolerant, scalable, and flexible environments for operations and hosted services. Contributes to server and storage technology strategies, and participates in product evaluation and selection.

(Duties/ responsibilities):
· Maintain documentation for server infrastructure.
· Assist application development teams with projects as necessary.
· Create tools to automate processes and procedures.
· Ensure proper patch levels on server hardware and software.
· Monitor servers for failures and performance problems.
· Perform capacity planning for future infrastructure needs.
· Participate in business continuity planning for infrastructure.
· Research, evaluate, test, pilot, implement and support new solutions that enable business processes.
· Monitor and perform follow-up on compliance violations, and develop policies, practices, and guidelines for server infrastructure.
· Support, install, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and related software for all branch offices.
· Work with vendors to troubleshoot and repair outages.
· Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotations.
· Coordinate with Employee Help Desk to communicate status and respond to questions.
· Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience required.
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows infrastructure including Windows Server 2000/2003, Active Directory, group policy, Microsoft back office software, and best practices.
· Advanced knowledge of Exchange Server 2003/2007, Internet Information Server (IIS), and Office Communications Server 2007 strongly preferred.
· Working knowledge of VMware ESX Server, VirtualCenter, and SAN technology.
· Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite.
· Advanced knowledge of storage area networks (SAN) and best practices. Experience with EMC CLARiiON, Centera, Avamar, and Recoverpoint strongly preferred.
· Advanced knowledge and experience implementing server applications in firewall/DMZ environments, and related best practices.
· Able to script/automate functions with VBscript or Perl. Experience with ASP, .NET, or SQL programming preferred.
· Able to exercise good judgment when troubleshooting server and storage related problems.
· Able to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels. Maintains calm and focus during emergency situations.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Working project management skills are required.
