Job Listing: Application Programmer

TEKsystems has partnered with a marketing company that develops and utilizes patented predictive modeling tools to maximize sales from inbound calls and online and mobile application transactions. We are seeking a Director of Software Development. This position will be based in McLean, VA.

As our client's Online Application Programmer, you will work with their online IT team to support our online reporting application. In this role you’ll participate in all phases of the software development life cycle. This includes determining the technical and architectural direction of the project, with critical input on software platforms, hardware platforms, design architecture, development standards, and build and release procedures. Further, you will continuously seek innovative ways to improve operational productivity through the introduction of new technologies, systems, methods and controls.

You'll apply your technical knowledge to analyze, recommend, design, build, install, integrate and support a full array of vendor supplied and internally developed systems. Your design and development experience will allow you to be a key contributor in all aspects of our clients’ suite of reporting and business management metrics development. You'll work with all functional business managers on requirements gathering to determine the feasibility, scope, and project expectations of proposed requests. You will also act as a liaison with the rest of IT in incorporating their initiatives including but not limited to security standards and application scalability (load testing, etc.). You will be chiefly responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the application. In addition, you’ll work closely with the QA team to ensure a robust staging and production environment. To be successful you will need to express yourself on technical matters, assist in the decision-making, and openly share information across the team.

Most important, you will be responsible for ensuring that all technological aspects of the project are delivered within agreed upon timeframes and quality measures - so that the IT effort is successfully aligned with key business objectives to achieve results.

Requirements for the position include:

- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or equivalent discipline
- 3 years' experience in Information Technology or business
- 2 additional years' experience accepted in lieu of a degree
- Hands-on experience integrating reporting UI’s with database applications
- Experience with Open Source Development environments including Zope, Python, PHP and MYSQL.
- Hands-on working knowledge of Java
- Hands-on working knowledge of Oracle 9i, 10g databases
- Hands-on working knowledge of Oracle technologies to include SQL*Loader, PL/SQL
- Multidimensional database and OLAP experience is preferred
- Working-knowledge of software development methodology and tools for component-based, object-oriented development preferred
- Working knowledge of XML technologies for data integration is desired
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) skills, including the ability to successfully work as part of a team are critical
