Reporting to the Manager of Databases & Business Intelligence, the Lead System Integrator & Business Intelligence specialist (a.k.a. BI Lead) will provide application support services to internal clients and business units. Under limited supervision, the BI Lead will plan, design, develop, test, coordinate, implement, support and enhance business intelligence and reporting applications spanning finance, accounting, supply chain, mining operations, production planning, and human resources. Applications will be developed following defined quality and process guidelines, or in the absence of them, the BI lead will develop quality and process guidelines. This position will work with Client's business units and others within the Corporate Information Services Group (CIS) to research and determine business and systems requirements to address a wide range of complex business issues. The incumbent will advise clients on technical issues and develop technical and end-user operating instructions and procedures. Additionally, this position will analyze and develop process improvements and coordinate work efforts with other CIS functions to deliver integrated solutions. This position will exercise technical expertise in multiple areas, and may lead a team of BI developers, providing technical and management guidance including project management responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform management functions in the absence of the Manager. The BI lead is expected to contribute at the highest level in all phases of the application development lifecycle.
1. Design, develop and deliver data warehouse business intelligence solutions utilizing BusinessObjects and Teradata; Gather business requirements, create designs based on target database designs and business data requirements, assess implementation alternatives and formulate overall design approaches; development, test and implement Business Object universes, reports and dashboards.
2. Monitor utilization of the Business Intelligence environment; Install, test and implement new versions of BI server and client software.
3. Develop training courses and course materials; Teach end-user classes in the use of BI tools.
4. Troubleshoot data problems; Work with data warehouse team members to identify root causes, resolve issues and implement long term fixes.
5. Lead small teams responsible for analyzing and solving new BI problems.
6. Follow, and in absence of, formalize processes for ensuring consistency and maintainability and auditable solutions entering the production environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Computer Science, Business Administration or Industrial Engineering.
- Seven (7) years progressing experience in Information Technology with five years of relational database application programming experience in Teradata, Oracle, or SQL Server.
- Four (4) years experience delivering business intelligence solutions using BusinessObjects Deski, Webi, and Designer against Teradata databases.
- Experience developing and giving training classes to end users.
- Infrastructure experience in building and supporting a multi-server BusinessObjects XI environment.
- Project management experience at the lead analyst or project leader levels.
- Strong data modeling and database design skills; IDEF1X knowledge.
- Proven experience in learning and adapting quickly to new tools and new business situations; Excellent data analyst with ability to see patterns in data, identify inconsistencies and developed proposed solutions that reflect how the business represents itself in the data collected.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to work independently and with teams.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to travel up to 10%, stay overnight for one-to-three days at a time, drive for up to four hours to visit local sites; Ability to work for hours at a time in front of a computer and keyboard utilizing Microsoft desktop tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with Microsoft Project.
- Ability to work with general office equipment such as a personal computer and keyboard, facsimile machines and photocopier.
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA
- Erwin data modeling tool experience.
- Spanish language skills.
- Data warehouse relational data modeling and database design skills.
- Strong SQL DML experience.
- Track record for delivering value-added business solutions.
- BusinessObjects XI release 2 experience.
