Job Listing: Sr. NMS Engineer

Our client in Spokane, WA is looking for a Sr. NMS Engineer on a direct hire basis. This individual's primary role is a blend of support and services activities with emphasis on NPI (New Product Introduction) into strategic and new accounts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Manage technical support requests from customers, partners and other global support centers
· Follow-through, document and manage customer/partner correspondence to clearly communicate technical troubleshooting steps and solutions
· Interface with engineering to recreate, submit, test and resolve software defects
· May assume or be assigned the role of SME (subject matter expert) for specific protocols or technologies within the support and services teams
· Travel to customer sites, as required, to perform any of the above responsibilities, travel can be short notice and up to 50% on a periodic basis.
· Participate in the 24x7x365 on-call rotation within the TAC (Technical Assistance Center) team

Specific experience and skills needed:
· Significant technical experience with large-scale switched Ethernet networks
· Experience in delivering technical training materials
· Experience in network professional services or pre-sales engineering

Carrier Ethernet Technical Skills:
· L2 Ethernet Basics
· L3 IP
· DHCP
· RSTP
· LACP
· Multicast/IGMP
· Level of understanding of LLDP and OAM Protocols for topology and troubleshooting

Preferred Advanced Technical Skills:
· VoIP protocol basics around MGCP vs SIP and understand what it takes to setup and tear down calls
· PBB-TE
· CFM
· MPLS

Network Management Skills:
· Unix and Linux administration experience
· Network/element management systems and applications experience
· Working knowledge of NOC Tools and Systems such as Fault Management, Monitoring systems, and Provisioning Systems
· SNMP skills in the area of MIB controls, browsing, configuration or topology management as well as syslog and trap host usage

Basic Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of networking and network/device management technologies and protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP, and MIBs.
- Strong experience with Network Management Systems and Tools such HP Openview, Micromuse Netcool, or similar systems.
- 3+ years of Unix and Linux administration experience.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills

Advanced Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge and experience with relational database systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle and MySQL.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Unix Shell and BeanShell scripting.

Education / Experience
BSCS, BSEE, or equivalent preferred
5 years working experience in a Network Operation environment with emphasis in configuring and utilizing Network Management tools & systems.
