Established Connecticut-based manufacturer of test & measurement instruments for the aerospace industry is seeking to fill a position in its engineering department. Founded in 1959, the company is the preeminent leader in the mass properties measurement field and is seeking a highly skilled mechanical design engineer to join the team.
Primary Duties to include:
-Designing machinery and associated fixtures primarily for the mass properties test equipment market. Work requires progressing from initial concept through making detailed CAD drawings, and providing support for manufacture, assembly, and testing.
-Defining product development needs on existing products; spearhead product and process changes including added features, cost reduction/value benefit to the customer.
-Providing leadership in new product development. Identify new product opportunities from market needs; develop strategy and be a critical team member in design, sales, and production.
-Assisting sales and marketing with technical inquiries and quoting.
-Occasional travel to customer sites at various points during the life of a project including pre sale fact finding, on-going development needs, and post sale installation and follow up.
Qualifications and Skills Set
-Minimum Required Background:
oBSME minimum
o5 years of related experience
oProven track record of machine design in a creative manufacturing environment
-Highly Sought Qualifications:
oWorking practical knowledge of electronic instrumentation – measurement and control
oFEA
oStrong knowledge of machine shop practices and capabilities.
-Pluses:
oExperience designing for cost effective, low volume production
oRecent design experience using ACAD
