Job Listing: Application Architect

A large St Louis client is in need of an Application Architect. The successful candidate will provide design and management guidance to all application development staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The application architect is responsible for researching, designing, and assisting with the implementation of all web services technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, such tasks as:

- Prepares technical reports and analysis of emerging web standards.

- Analyzes the financial impact of new technologies standards.

- Prepares and provides training to application developers, testers and analysts.

- Define overall development methodology and process. Responsible for enforcing and implementing standardized development process.

- Approves all software designs, and mentors application developers to ensure proper design.

-Directs all design and code reviews in order to maintain consistent design and ensuring best practices are in place.

- Researches emerging web service standards to properly integrate into application development projects.

- Educates department on new technologies or practices and works with the application developers during design and implementation.

- Assists in the development of test plans (both manual and automated) for custom application development.

- Defines technology standards for all Java-based applications, including messaging infrastructure (JMS, MQ, TIBCO).

- Consults with the application development team, and SSUs on the design, selection, and implementation of all application related technologies.

- Represents the web services department on system-wide project teams.

- Manages the evaluation of new technologies to include items such as purchase price, value assessment, and life cycle costs.

- Meets with vendors, application analysts, support technicians and super users to determine client requirements.

- Participates in meetings with end users, vendors, analysts and management.

- Serves as a consultant to departments in the process of strategic planning, operational analysis, business design, solution implementation and project management as it relates to assigned projects.

- Assists the application development staff with 3rd level support of all custom development.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other four year degree with significant IS experience OR equivalent experience.

- Seven years application development experience with Java.

- Five years J2EE experience with large scale enterprise class projects

- In-depth knowledge of: JSP/Servlet, JDBC, J2EE application servers, Web-services, WSDL, SOAP, RDBMS, JMS, XML/XSL, Spring, Hibernate, AOP

- Familiar with: Portlets, JSR168, WSRP

- Knowledgeable in .Net, ASP, C++, C#

- Project management skills.

- Ability to travel up to 50%.
