Summary of Job Responsibility:
Senior System Engineer is responsible for specification, design, implementation and documentation of the Platform products. The system consists of all the hardware and software required to support the Enterprise Content Manager software suite, which includes the operating system (Linux), high availability software, TCP/IP networking, storage subsystems, and etc.

Externally, Senior System Engineers interact occasionally with customers in providing third level support, sales assistance, or technical assistance with new implementations.

Internally, the individual will report to an Engineering Manager and will interact with team leads, project managers, and software engineers to complete tasks. Senior System Engineers provide assistance to the Quality Assurance department in writing and reviewing test plans and providing systems support. They also interact with Manufacturing by developing and supporting the Automated Manufacturing Process.

Essential Function:

1. Product requirements: Is the owner of, and responsible for developing the requirements specification for the assigned project or product. Coordinates translation of high-level business requirements into engineering design requirements.

2. Technical Designs: Designs major sub-systems of a product, define interfaces with other sub-systems and integrate the design with other parts of the product. The designs are of the highest quality - efficiently, optimally and correctly meets the requirements for the product and the customer. Includes concepts of serviceability and implementation in the designs and supporting documentation. Conducts technical reviews, evaluates designs for adherence to requirements/optimal design and coordinates product designs to ensure consistency.

3. Coding / Construction: Codes major sub-systems of a product. The code is of the highest quality - optimally meeting the design requirements. Mentors and leads others. Introduces new techniques and ideas to improve internal best practices.

4. Estimation and scheduling: Accurately estimates the expected duration of larger projects (a few individual projects with cumulative scope of less than 1 year of effort). Assists in reviewing estimates of other team members.

5. Testing: Writes, updates and executes verification test plans for large features. Assesses boundary conditions and exceptions, then devises appropriate tests for them. Leads, mentors and reviews test plans of junior engineers.

6. Troubleshooting / problem solving: Manages and mentors multiple resources in troubleshooting, developing root causes and performing corrective or preventive actions within scope of project.

7. New technologies/ standards: The team expert on a family of technologies. Consistently incorporates new technologies or standards into product development.

8. Knowledge of industry/competitor trends: Provides technical validation and input to the product roadmap.

Minimum Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Excellent interpersonal skills.

3. Works effectively in a dynamic environment where shifting priorities frequently alter work plans, or require multitasking to achieve desired outcome.

4. Solid understanding of Linux, TCP/IP networking, and high availability systems.

5. Expertise in shell scripting

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

2. At least 7 years of experience with a background in systems administration and/or systems software.
