Our client has an immediate for a Junior Systems Administrator for a 1-2 year contract in Charlottesville, Virginia. Position requires occasional off-hours support.
This position includes, but is not limited to, the implementation, operation, monitoring, maintenance and technical support for the Company's business application's platform and other software products. Takes the lead in managing the operations of the IT infrastructure systems, including hardware, platform support, communications, and security systems, using guidance and support from the Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Communication Engineering team leads. Directs the administration and support of such systems, including responsibility for disaster recovery/business resumption operations and planning.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Supports the Company's business application's platform operating system software. This includes the installation of new releases, application of maintenance, problem resolution, customization and configuration.
2. Supports other vendor software by executing on the Company's business application's platform. This includes installation of new releases, integration, application of maintenance, problem resolution, customization and configuration.
3. Evaluates and monitors system performance. Collect and analyze system performance data to detect situations and trends, which may indicate potential problems. The incumbent should be capable of performing diagnostic work with a variety of Intel and RISC hardware platforms and Windows, AIX, UNIX and/or Linux operating systems to ensure the successful resolution of potential problems.
4. Monitors and reports on system utilization. Collect and analyze data relating to system resource usage and provide management with pertinent information to be used for enhancements, revisions, and replacements to drive project planning and budgetary planning purposes.
5. Establishes and documents operational and configuration control standards and procedures regarding the Company's business application's platform.
6. Serves as a technical support representative in all matters relating to the IT infrastructure systems.
7. Works with the customer service team relative to operational procedures and problem determination and resolution.
8. Acts as a teacher or consultant in regards to the training requirements of users.
9. Assist Engineering teams in planning and problem determination and resolution.
10. Takes a leadership role in the development, testing and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan pertaining to the Company's business application's platform.
11. Responsible for the integrity of the data maintained on the Company's business application's platform via backup and recovery mechanisms.
12. Participates with equal say in the evaluation and selection of new hardware and/or software packages.
13. Establishes and administers security procedures, in conjunction with the Security Analyst, to ensure the integrity of the mainframe environment.
15. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in the field by attending seminars and reviewing professional periodicals and publications.
KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
This job requires a B.S. in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent job experience and six plus (6+) years of experience with Company's business application's platform support and a proven history of leadership and technical ability. The incumbent must have in-depth knowledge of IBM software, systems administration, problem determination and resolution and capacity planning.
Strong organizational and communications skills are also required.
In addition, the incumbent must possess good human relations skills to work closely with and maintain a working relationship with other departments in order to accomplish common goals.
