The Senior Design Engineer role is a high visibility position. The individual selected will be accountable for contributing to the conceptualization, development, and design of complex components and subsystems of locomotives. He or she will also undertake complex analysis and will identify and resolve design problems.
The Senior Design Engineer interacts with all internal functional areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Purchasing as well as working with external customers. The incumbent is responsible for guiding internal technical development and purchase finished supplier development and interaction.
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN THE MIDWESTERN PART OF THE U.S.
Required Skills
The Senior Design Engineer will:
**Design and specify components and sub-systems on the locomotives.
**Coordinate design and detailing work with contract employees.
**Maintain and release drawings/prints for components and assemblies on the locomotive.
**Work closely with internal business partners.
**Interact with customers.
Travel of 10-25% may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
**4-Year Engineering degree
** 5-7+ years experience working in the locomotive/rail industry
**Proficient using Pro/Engineer design software.
**2+ years of problem solving experience in product related projects using 6 Sigma and/or other problem identification and resolution tools.
**Possess excellent analytical and communication skills.
**Must be a self starter, accountable, and customer driven with strong teamwork,
organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Additional Requirements:
Individuals should possess an above average level of engine and components knowledge as well as an understanding of locomotive systems. Candidate should be able to lead, monitor, and manage projects and teams. The candidate must be mobile with strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Must also possess strong communication skills, business acumen, and customer focus.
