Job Listing: GIS Technician

Nationally-recognized, engineering consulting firm is actively seeking a GIS Technician to join its growing team.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, work well independently and enjoy being challenged and solving problems. Candidates must have demonstrated experience with cartographic design and map production with ArcGIS desktop software, as well as experience using ESRI geodatabases.

Candidates must have thorough understanding of the following:
- Cartographic Design
- Geospatial Database Management
- Geospatial Metadata
- Web-based Maps (specifically, cartographic design and overall functionality)

Specific job duties will include:
- Cartographic Design and Production (specifically for web-based mapping)
- Geospatial Database Maintenance and Image Integration
- Geospatial Data Manipulations (data format conversions, projections, etc.)
- Geospatial Data Capture (heads-up digitizing and feature attribution)
- Generation and maintenance of geospatial metadata.

Specific requirements include:
- Four-year degree (BA or BS) in GIS, Geography, Geology or a related Earth Sciences field as well as specific course work in GIS software.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS desktop software (ArcMap, ArcView, and ArcCatalog) and ESRI geodatabases (personal, file and/or ArcSDE).
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience with cartographic design, map production and geospatial databases (including database maintenance and data capture).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with web-based maps (specifically, their cartographic design overall functionality) and geospatial metadata.
- Simultaneous performance of geospatial database maintenance tasks and cartographic design/production tasks.

This position can interview and start immediately. Candidates within a 300 mile radius are preferred for the position.
